Support Main Street not Wall Street - Cash Mob Locally on Small Business Saturday | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 25342985 United States 11/13/2012 11:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't endorse mindless consumerism, but I saw this suggestion on another site and I think it has merit, as long as you're purchasing stuff you or your family needs. I especially like the cash mob idea for helping locally owned small businesses that are having a hard time. I'm sharing it here because the site I saw it on is not one that your average GLP'er would likely be visiting. Some things transcend political leanings, and supporting fellow citizens and local businesses is one of them: 1) Boycott Black Friday completely - and I mean all big corporate entities, not just Walmart. 2) Wait, and do your shopping on Nov 24th - aka Small Business Saturday (SBS). 3) Patronize only American-owned small businesses that employ American citizens, instead of those that exploit undocumented workers or hire non-citizens who are here on a some kind of work visa. 4) Identify those American-owned small businesses in your town or neighborhood that are really struggling to stay afloat and start a campaign now to encourage your friends, family, colleagues to "Cash Mob" this establishment on SBS. Yes, I know SBS is a marketing campaign started by American Express, but it is still a much better way to help the local Amercian economy on Main Street than funneling your money straight up to the 1% (Waltons) or out of the country via mult-national corporations. Don't have time to organize a cash mob, but still want to do your part to help keep Main Street afloat? Find an existing cash mob group in your area and participate: [link to cashmobs.wordpress.com] |
