I'm thinking it's important to actually get a list together, if we can - to really try to show what an effect this is going to have!!

My 'puter is on the slow side today, tho. And I haven't hit on the best "keyword" combo for my search yet.

But here's another:

Re: List of companies reducing employee's hours due to Obamacare...
FreedomWorks compiled the list, reported in Friday’s Washington Times, from statements made by the firms since President Barack Obama’s healthcare mandate was passed.

The firms include:

Welch Allyn — a manufacturer of medical diagnostic equipment in central New York — which says it will cut 275 employees, about 10 percent of its workforce, over the next three years.
Dana Holding Corp. — a global auto parts manufacturing company — which warned of layoffs due "$24 million over the next six years in additional U.S. healthcare expenses.’’
Stryker — a medical device manufacturer — which plans to close its facility in Orchard Park, N.Y., eliminating 96 jobs in December. They also say they’ll slash 5 percent of their global workforce, about 1,170 positions.
Boston Scientific — a medical device manufacturer — said it plans to cut between 1,200 and 1,400 jobs, while shifting investments and workers overseas to China.
Medtronic — a medical device maker — which cut 500 positions over the summer, with 500 more set to be eliminated by the end of 2013.

Other companies promising job cuts include: Smith & Nephew — 770 layoffs; Abbott Labs — 700 layoffs; Covidien — 595 layoffs; Kinetic Concepts — 427 layoffs; St. Jude Medical — 300 layoffs; and Hill Rom — 200 layoffs.

Among the reasons for the layoffs: increased costs for health insurance and, in the case of medical manufacturing companies, a new medical-device tax.

And how many of the people with reduced hours will need a SECOND job, and where will they find one?

And how backlogged are the banks and courts going to be on foreclosures, when THAT MANY MORE people will be unable to afford their homes?

Re: List of companies reducing employee's hours due to Obamacare...
I work for the 'don' that is papa johns and although the people on the bottom are salt-of-the-earth, the business model this company uses is based on corporate financial gain only. At least from what I hear from other co-workers/managers who have worked outside my store.

In Wisconsin, couriers get paid 3.50 (+,-) an hour. Lets think about this. Even if gas was .90c/gal back in the early 1990s, why would I risk my life for someone who has very little regard for safety. Oh wait, they have training videos that instruct you on how to use your own car properly.... more than enough insurance.

I also work at another delivery company non-za related, 20% less amount of hours and twice the pay.

You can still apply for food stamps while maintaining a sizable work week. Schnatter would be much more open to have the tax payers look out for the well-being of his employees.

Delivery fees in my humblest of opinions account for 15-25% of customers rationalizing cheep behavior, and I only collect half the fee.

However, I know little about the differences between franchises, and a corporate structure- other than the franchise owner gets paid last.

I do know that man wasn't supposed to have food delivered to his door. Haha, ok- enough of my self defeating attitude!

In the early 20th century in America, women would put a sign in their windows to let the iceman or butcherman know to stop there as they wheeled their horse-drawn products down the street. They were spoiled. HAHA But South Korea is the most convenient place now. Mom & Pop restaurants and vendor food sold on every corner, everywhere you look, across the street from where you live even!

Thanks for the list, please keep it coming. We now live in a socialist country, with almost half voting for a check, and in 4 years 60% will be, there really is not a whole lot that can be done? When the people with money stop working, and even move out of the country, let's see who will be around to pay the bill. Now that the U.S. has voted out capitalism, there is no turning back.

Im in the process of negotiations to sell my Logistics Business to a competitor. He will most likely get rid of all my employees, he just wants my clients and contracts.
I will be keeping the Recruiting division of my business, but I will only employ contract labor recruiters with no benefits.

Went to a Kroger in SC the other night around midnight. There was only one "cashier" and she was handling the check yourself out aisle. All the lights were dimmed and there was maybe half-a-dozen of us checking ourselves out.

It was odd, considering it bills itself as a 24-hour store.

Hell I'm supporting all of these companies even more now. It's funny, but also sad, how the filthy antiAmerican collectivist minded left wing always ends up hurting those they claim to represent the most...it's delicious really. OH well..back to my regularly scheduled life.

I will be boycotting all of these companies.

If they needed to fire or lay off some workers... they should have just did it instead of getting all political about it.

I will no longer support these companies that put profits over people only for political reasons.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24924490

How typically ignorant liberal. Boycott away. Boycott all you want. If it makes you "feel good" about your own, destructive, unsound politics.

These businesses aren't "getting all political about it"...they were holding on in the hopes that common sense, sanity, and fiscal responsiblity would prevail and Obama would be defeated.

It didn't happen.

Now the country is going to have to pay the steep price for your stupid politics.

Re: List of companies reducing employee's hours due to Obamacare...
I work at a corporate McDonald's store. Today I was informed that they would be capping our hours at 32 a week, and no one is to be hired for full time. I promptly called and canceled my insurance through the company. They asked me why I was canceling, so I told them that those 8 hours they were stripping from me was what paid for my insurance. If they want to cut my hours, fine, doesn't phase me any. The only people that will suffer from what I can see is the people who work in the insurance field.

Also, Dayton Ohio Wendy's franchise owner George Silvis has said he is capping his employees at 28 hours a week, in addition to canceling family coverage for all his employees.

Greened for discussion.

This list will grow. I don't know if my small company will be able to handle our new tax burden after talking to my accountant...especially if taxageddon goes down. I could work for my competitor, I guess. Maybe have less staff and move back into production myself? Time will tell. Might be nice to not have to carry the mental\emotional burdens and long hours.....
