Harry Reid seeks to limit filibuster in next Senate

Probably one of the first reasonable things he's proposed. There should be no such thing as a fillibuster for either side. They should have to work together and reach an agreement.

Harry Mason Reid, is the senior United States Senator from Nevada, serving since 1987, said he will work with Republicans but that they need to work with him, too.

Knowing Harry Reid's history, this means that he is setting us up for some MAJOR failures. They are going to do some very crooked things and don't want to have negotiations over it. Live and learn folks.

The filibuster is a sort of check on one party doing something radical. If 60 of 100 Senators can agree on a measure, then it must be something not too far out there. It's a safeguard against the tyranny of the majority over a significant minority.

Dems should be able to avoid the filibuster if they can propose reasonable ideas that at least 5 republicans can agree with. (current balance of power is 45 GOP -- 55 Dems and liberal Independents).

In addition, it helps us understand what happens in the universe. This is also why I think that it is important to understand :-).
