I agree with another poster about putting his name and your phone number on a tag, and put a collar on him! I have a cat that wears a collar, and rabies tag, and he's an indoor cat. But you never know when they might slip out and disappear! Especially when I have guests, they don't seem to get it when I express concern about a door left open!

So far as chipping, OP? It's sounds great, but I seriously doubt many people will run a cat to a vet to see if it's chipped. I also doubt the animal shelter would do the same. I DID do it with a dog that came up on our property, but he wasn't chipped. I also called every vet in the area, along with the classifieds. Anything is better than nothing though. I would be devastated if I lost my four legged family.
