My mom's little rescue kitty is always attempting a jailbreak and succeeds from time to time. He always comes back after a few days. My mom call them his adventures. She doesn't let him out, but he is a sneaky little guy and can slip right out the door when you least expect it. Don't throw in the towel just yet,its only been a couple of days.
