Good eats on the mad cheap.
The wife and I just finished the delicious chicken soup that I made on Sunday.

We make great money, and we prep. We see how far we can stretch a dollar. Every week we get more supply's and see how we can save.

Just wanted to share. I made chicken soup Sunday.

$5 whole family roaster chicken
$2 celery
$2 bag of carrots
$1 med onion
$4 flour (in pantry already)
$1 parsley (home grown in pantry already)
$2 garlic (home grown in pantry already)
$3 salt ( in pantry already)
$3 eggs ( in fridge already)
$4 rice (pantry)
$3 pepper (pantry)
$30 total, $10 if you have staples and spices on hand.

$30 divided by 2 people is $15 divided by 4 days is $3.75 a day
We had most of the every day stuff so you can figure
$10 divided by 2 people $5 divided by 4 days is $1.25

That is good eating on the cheap, and more money for prepping.

Beef stew, clam chowder, veggie beef soup, chilli, split pea soup...

Good eats on the cheap. I'm just trying to help.........
That is all...

Eating on the cheap is great and all but I need my meat. Otherwise eating on the cheap is making chili and other meals out of what we grow.

Thanks for the ideas though, I may give them a shot.

You can still eat on the cheap with beef too. There was plenty of chicken for 4 days.

Beef stew (stew meat) , and veggi beef soup (hamburger) is still only $2-3 bucks a day for good eating.
That is all...

I know how to make meals from old recipes passed down from the Depression but for now I choose to eat as if I am the royal family till the time when I can not afford it.
In other words prepare for the worst but live one day at a time. If you can afford a lobster today don't deprive yourself.

You can still eat pretty cheaply while getting meat into the meals too. Instead of looking at stew meat, look at breakfast steaks. You can slice those up to go into stew, soup or stir fry and its usually about half the cost of a pack of stew meat. You also have to pay attention to what goes on sale any given week and if you can afford to and you like it, buy some of it and put it into the freezer to save for later. This way you're not buying it a week or two later at full price.

I agree.. but I also think that home economics should still be in schools. Almost none of my friends from school know how to cook and they're all freaked out that they'll mess something up if they try.

Cooking is simple.

I will admit when I was in school Home Economics was a course I took. There are so many easy recipes using soup and pasta that can be found online. Research the internet that is what this amazing info-library was create for.

Re: Good eats on the mad cheap.
Thanks OP! Love the reminder of how inexpensively we can eat with a simple homemade soup or stew. If desired, adding a few slices from a loaf of crusty bread or cornbread, with a glass of milk, or even a beer makes for a feast!
