Re: Daylight Comet coming SOON
OK Astromut, serious question.....how can they acurately predict the trajectory/flightpath of this comet when it is still so far off and has only been tracked for such a short time?
Can they honestly already say that it will miss our sun or earth?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5127800

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5127800

Gravity works. We know the approximate position and velocity of the comet to a degree that is accurate enough to easily tell that it won't hit earth or the sun. I was able to tell that the Curiosity rover was going to reach Mars even just based on a few pictures I took of it only hours after it left earth, 254 days before it reached mars.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

I call bullshit. You lie. NASA intentionally launched the rover away from MARS and corrected the orbit later on.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7864962

I know. I detected that fact myself. They wanted to make sure the centaur stage would not hit mars, but the trajectory took it right by mars and only required a small course correction to make it hit mars. That's nothing at all like missing earth by nearly half an AU. Saying they launched "away from mars" is a bit of an exaggeration.

I have a question.. Can anyone explain in laymans terms the brightness of this. Will it give us light at our normal night time? That kinda stuff?

The point at which it will be at its brightest will be during the day anyway, but it will still be quite bright when it gets farther from the sun in the sky. Not "turn night into day" bright, but enough to put on an amazing show.

Yes, I remember Hale Bopp very well. It was so cool to be abel to see it with the naked eye just hanging there in the nighttime sky. I remember thinking what much earlier man thougth when they would see such a thing. I look forward to see this one. God willing it will dazel us all.

For the people who use Stellarium:

Put the code between the ---- at the end of the file "ssystem.ini" to show C/2012 S1 (ISON) in Stellarium.

How can astronomers predict the trajectory and estimate a date of close approach of a comet when it's way out in the Oort Cloud, do they all travel at the same speed?

Nostradamus talks about a daylight comet during the Third World War . Appearing in December. This could be it.

Can I explain it?, no, not even going to try.

I'll stick with electric universe for now, and avoid the doom of some theories... It's easier to swallow, and makes me think positive for mankind.
 Quoting: Redpaw360

um wasn't there a thread also that pointed out that any huge comet on the ecliptic w/the galactic center alignment would cause enough energy to spark a world wide earthquake also? Something else everyone has predicted in one fashion or another ???!?!?!?!!

We don't see comets when they're way out in the Oort cloud. This comet is currently about 6.25 AU's from the sun, nowhere near the Oort cloud. We calculate the orbit of comets by watching how their position in the sky changes over time from a known location, using methods that were first developed by Gauss.

Re: Daylight Comet coming SOON
I'm going to point out that I've been watching a lot of "electric universe" videos lately and also trying to understand the rumored wave of energy that has been shown to occur in our galaxy leaving behind tell tell traces of its past occurrences.

I'm not asking you to swallow hook line and sinker what this video shows you, but the videos put out by this group as well as Teslas' theories about an electric universe has me thinking differently lately about dark matter, gravity, mass, anti matter, magnetism and a host of other things that are very hard to learn more about.

Check this link out:

[link to www.youtube.com]

Give me you thoughts on this matter please, and whether you think this comet could be part of the electric universe.
 Quoting: Redpaw360

Great thread bud. You are also on to something with the electric universe theory, but that changes so much of what everybody has been taught. Big changes coming. Thanks

Wow! Coming pretty close to Earth also, .0125 is pretty close for a comet, with a 1.0 eccentricity? Hmmmmm...

Coming .0125 from Earth with a 1.0 eccentricity ..better hope its not off by much.

This would be considered a near miss actually.

No wonder it's going to be so bright, its almost on our doorstep.
