A 17th mag. comet in the constellation of Cancer that was discovered last week and confirmed and announced today:

2012 S1 ISON (an observatory project name, not a person).
This comet will pass the sun in November, 2013 and then approach even closer to earth by Dec. 29th 2013

The projected magnitude of this comet on November 29 is going to be nearly MINUS 7 (-7.0).

Hale Bopp, according to Wikipedia, made it up to a magnitude of +2 and it was quite bright!  -7 is crazy bright.

This will be a history maker.

So I'm out at 5 AM this morning (we live in the country) and I take the dog out and I'm looking up at the sky and I'm seeing what looks like satellites but they're changing course and I know that satellites move in orbit. I saw one of them go 10x brighter than the rest and then fade but it was still there.

If you've never looked up and really study what goes on up there, I highly recommend you go out and check it out. If you live in the city it would be worth driving to the country to get away from the light pollution.

Beat me to it!

Even though it's going to be Southern Hemisphere for a while, the lining-up with Dec 21st 2012 really convinces me that i'm on the right path, that Dec21st isn't doom, but the end of "Normal" time for the last age.

We will enter a crossover period of 7 years called "Tribulation" in the Bible, where the old powers try desperately to keep it even though it is utterly futile, they have no choice but to try everything.

After 7 years, a new Age begins officially, the cosmic conditions being right to do so, on the other side of merdian.

Nothing will stay the same!

Amazing.

This newly discovered comet, twice the size of jupitor, which is massive, heading for our sun.

In November 2013 it will be like another sun in the sky, lighting-up the night sky in the Northern Hemisphere.

An object TWICE the size of JUPITOR is huge!

If/when it zips past our sun it comes between earth and our sun. Talk about earthquakes!

In my opinion, this object is wormwood/nibiru/planet x etc..

This is also the beginning of what the Mayan's called the "new sun" or "sixth sun" or "the next age."

The last time this came around (roughly 5200 years ago) it erased all past recorded history. Civilization was thrust into survival mode.

Everything moved somewhere, up/down, north to south, south to north, poles, continets etc..

OK Astromut, serious question.....how can they acurately predict the trajectory/flightpath of this comet when it is still so far off and has only been tracked for such a short time?
Can they honestly already say that it will miss our sun or earth?

Twice the size of Jupiter does not mean twice the mass of Jupiter. The comet will have minimal (if any) effect on other objects in the Solar System.

^This. A comet's coma can even rival the sun itself in size, but it contains negligible mass. It's just a giant and very tenuous cloud of dust and gas. As ice sublimates from the comet, it carries away bits of material with it and this forms a huge cloud around the comet. The coma is not gravitationally bound to the comet, so it just keeps expanding. The coma is blown back by the solar wind to form the tail, though minor comets or comets that are too far from the sun do not outgas enough to form a noticeable tail (larger dust particles that are not as affected by the solar wind tend to remain in the orbital plane of the comet and form a disc instead, the front end of which is seen as the "antitail" on some occasions when viewed edge-on to the comet's orbital plane). Ultimately the size is just a function of how much the comet is outgassing.

The unaided eye can see -4.4 mag venus, if you know where to look during the day. The full moon is -10, the sun is -26.

Actually JPL gives a close approach distance of 0.4291 AU given the current orbital data (don't use the Java applet, it's just a 2 body simulation), but how is this a "disaster?"
