God is good when he humbles us, makes us ashamed of our sin, and produces our obedience to him by bringing evil events, conditions and people against us.

The affliction the people of God will endure may initially be very discouraging to them. The trials they will face may even be the most difficult ordeals they have ever experienced. Often they will become embittered at God because they assume He is allowing them to suffer unjustly.

But usually when such antagonism against God arises it is because there is minimal understanding concerning their dark and hardened heart that God, through suffering, ultimately reveals to them and shatters. After the breaking occurs, all the bitter suffering they were subjected to becomes sweet spiritual satisfaction because there is no longer a strong desire to struggle against God but to cooperate.

So those called by God to live right must learn to find comfort in all things that God brings into their life, with the knowledge that God has their best interest in mind. Only then is true peace attained.

1Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks:
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.

Hebrews 12:11
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous:
nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
