Right now, I have '05 Chevy Aveo and it is just garbage. I'm not even sure it'll make it the year I have left to pay it off. This is the second car I've owned that, in less than five years, has fallen apart.
And before anyone asks, yes, I do take good care of my cars. Oil change every 3000, change the air filters when needed, make sure fluids are consistently topped off, etc.
Here's what I've been thinking of doing. I would really like a Jeep Wrangler for my next car, but if I can't find one within my price range, I was going to ditch the car thing altogether and get a decent motorcycle (for longer trips) and bike (for around town).
Not only would I save on gas and maintenance, but I could get a decent amount of exercise too. On really miserable weather days, I could catch the bus.
Here's the catch; I live in Upstate NY, which usually means late Fall-early Spring, a motorcycle and bike would essentially be useless, unless I can find winterized versions.
So my question boils down to this; is the trade-off (saving the money from not having a car vs. not having reliable transportation a part of the year) worth it? |

Motorcycles can be unsafe, not due from your negligence but through other driver's negligence, just get an import vehicle like a Honda or Suzuki, these are cars from proven companies- Suzuki in fact started up from motorcycles into cars. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4094219 Just get something second hand from an auto mall or sorts, Suzuki specifically has a very good reputation |
