Bank of America and Wells Fargo employees not allowed into thier offices in Downtown CHarlotte this week. Why not? Bank holiday?
I worked at the home of a Bank of America executive who is married to a Wells Fargo executive today in the CHarlotte NC area today. What I found to be interesting is that both of them were told not to come to their buildings in downtown Charlotte this week due to the DNC convention being held in Charlotte. I aksed them why they were banned from thier own worksite this week and they said it was for security reasons. The only people allowed into the Wells Fargo buildings and Bank of America buildings in downtown Charlotte NC this week are those who have been selected by the DNC to enter the buildings or those who were willing to submit to an extensive background screening along with obtaining a security clearance.

Why is this required? Whats so secretive you have to have a super high level clearance to go to work at a Wells Fargo or Bank of America building while the DNC is in town?

A bank holiday in the works? What is the purpose of this? Who wants or needs those buildings unoccupied this week?

I live in Charlotte, NC and have all my life. I regularly travel the roads which are blocked and a family member works in one of the Wells Fargo buildings.

Yes, they have shut down access to some of the main uptown roads and ordered most employees to stay at home. I admit, there is no true way for a private citizen to verify who or what may be happening in those buildings. However, I and others have been working our way around most of what there is to see and do... so you GLP'ers do have some eyes and ears on the ground out here.

First of all, what happens at the ACTUAL convention itself... you know, the stuff in the studium or convention center we are all almost forced to hear about if we look at any mainstream news outlet... well none of that shit seems to matter during the day when the streets are open to the public. I haven't seen protestors or soapbox speakers, I don't hear people talking about how great Obama is or how great Romney is. I get a sense it's a majority of Charlotteans just getting out and enjoying the local festivities like they would if this were just another type of open-to-the-public street festival. We have one every year, it's called SpeedStreet (and we try as hard as we can to pass as just another big city, but boy-o-boy does the southern Nascar hick or trailer trash girl come out in almost every person there).

Secondly... we here in Charlotte have another reason not to really worry. As if the 10,000 imported police officers walking in formation around the streets wasn't enough, we have a pretty open opinion (and tons of local police support) about our great open-carry laws and it shows. Any person trying to do something crazy would absolutely have to be suicidal. SO things appear to be going smoothly here, I have gone uptown everyday to walk around then grab a drink at the bar. I favor Blackfinn, nice bartenders, not to big, not to loud. However, also having a concealed-carry permit helps when entering tents or the local watering hole. I've become a mildly familiar face to some of the officers and you know what their main concern was? THERE'S NOTHING TO ****ING DO! There are at least 10 cops standing wherever you want to look.

Lastly... the only gripe I have with the whole thing are the blocking of other roads around town. Such as our famous Ballantyne Parkway. They close off varying sections and sides of the road and I really can't pinpoint why. At first I thought it was becuase some well-to-do politician staying at the luxurious Ballantyne Resort was afraid to get mugged in richest, most uppity part of town. But then the road is blocked off in a completely different area(with nothing but the finishing construction going on of a few 20-story buildings) and so-on. I dont know, I really don't stick around and wait to see what happens so I can't say for sure about anything, just an observation.

So in conclusion I don't think there's a lot to take notice of... I mean I'm sorry guys, I tried to find just something, just one thing that I could headline on this site.. but i got nada.

I had to re-read your post to see that I forgot to mention about the building restrictions. Yeah, not a single person entered or left buildings, at all. Police just stand around pretending not to be the doorman... but when it rains, they have no problem letting you in. But by any standard business practices you cannot have people who are not employees wandering through the halls of your office. It's called corporate security, and buddy, IT'S ALWAYS THERE WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!! And on a non-conspiracy angle, it just makes practicle business sense to have security on duty even when offices are closed.
