"Electricity as the Dominant Force in the World" - the Name of the $5 Bill of 1878
They knew in the latter part of the 1800's that Electricity would dominate the world. Crazy. They even put it out there on money!

This was part of an 'Educational Series' of silver certificates put out in 1896 by The United States Treasury. This particular note they named "Electricity as the Dominate Force in the World".

Makes you wonder what they know now that will eventually be coming.

Why do Americans always use the word "Dominate" when it should be "Dominant"?

Is this some kinda Freudian slip?

er.... OP used the word correctly. "Dominate" is a verb, "Dominant" is an adjective.

Not sure it does say it on the actual bill, but according to Wiki, this is the title (or allegorical motif) of the $5 Educational Note of the 1896 Educational Series.

The Educational Series series of notes is the informal nickname given by numismatists to a series of United States Silver Certificates produced by the United States Treasury in 1896, after Bureau of Printing and Engraving chief Claude M. Johnson ordered a new currency design. The notes depict various allegorical motifs and are considered by some numismatists to be the most beautiful monetary designs ever produced by the United States.[1]

Not that surprising.

Electrification was already in full swing, the telephone had been invented, there was a transatlantic telegraph cable, the first football stadium got electric floodlights (arc lights, not bulbs), etc.

The era is called the Second Industrial Revolution by economical historians.

I saw this yesterday. The guy's goal to raise the money for the Tesla Museum was $850,000.

TWO DAYS after he started the fundraising he had over $500,000 raised! Its already climbing past $750,000 and it hasn't even been a week.
