CNN, Time Magazine suspend Fareed Zakaria after his admission of plagiarism
8/10/12 5:27 PM EDT

CNN has joined Time Magazine and suspended Fareed Zakaria following his admission of plagiarism.

"We have reviewed Fareed Zakaria’s TIME column, for which he has apologized," CNN said in a written statement. "He wrote a shorter blog post on CNN.com on the same issue which included similar unattributed excerpts. That blog post has been removed and CNN has suspended Fareed Zakaria while this matter is under review."

Time Magazine suspended Zakaria earlier this afternoon after he admitted to plagiarizing an April article about the National Rifle Association by New Yorker staff writer Jill Lepore.

CNN host Fareed Zakaria suspended for copying other writer's work
New York: Time editor-at-large and CNN host Fareed Zakaria has been suspended by both the magazine and the network for lifting several paragraphs by another writer for his use in a recent Time column.

Mr Zakaria apologised on Friday, declaring in a statement he made "a terrible mistake," adding, "It is a serious lapse and one that is entirely my fault."

In a separate statement, Time spokesman Ali Zelenko said the magazine has accepted Mr Zakaria's apology, but would suspend his column for one month, "pending further review."

...Shortly afterward, CNN said it had removed from the network's website a blog post that "included similar unattributed excerpts," and taken Mr Zakaria off the air indefinitely.

"CNN has suspended Fareed Zakaria while this matter is under review," said CNN spokeswoman Jennifer Dargan. She said Zakaria's Sunday foreign-affairs program, "GPS," will have its time slots filled in the interim by "Your Money with Ali Veshi" and "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."...

He was a liberal and I've hated him since he was on Bill Pig Maher's show making fun of everyone who had a different opinion than them.

Good Riddance!

I guess Fareed Zakaria will have to go work for the New York Times, where all of this is accepted.

Re: CNN, Time Magazine suspend Fareed Zakaria after his admission of plagiarism
I read some of the comments, and it seems like quite a few of them were upset about his suspension because they "like his show". A few said that although they liked him, it was the right thing to do because, well, he PLAGIARIZED!!!!!

I personally side with the few. Our country (and probably the world) has gotten to the point where we will forgive someone just about anything because "he's such a nice guy". Apparently "being a nice guy" trumps Truth and Honesty. But right is right, and wrong is wrong. It CANNOT be incremental. It's like being a little bit pregnant. You either are, or you're not.

Fareed has been in the journalistic arena long enough to know that what he did was wrong, and no amount of excuses will make it right. He says he's sorry, but I wonder if he would have come forward had he not been caught stealing the work of a writer from "The New Yorker" magazine.

The question now is, will CNN and Time stand for Journalistic integrity, or will they beat a cowardly (and money-driven) retreat and claim that Fareed has joined the Banks and Wall Street in being "Too Big To Fail"? popcorn
"I have come to the conclusion that all news should be treated like 9/11, assume it is a psyop with actors participating in a staged event complete with props, until proven otherwise, in which case assume whatever is being recorded, reported, televised, is distortions/lying by omission/outright lies, until proven otherwise." - Anonymous, 4-13-12

As if CNN Stands ror honesty and truth. The network should be closed for lying to the world about many things including 9/11. Fareed's crimes are minute.
