Benadryl helps stop a Gallbladder attack.
Yeah I know, no linky you stinky. But it occurred to me that people may not know this so I will share.

My mother has had gallbladder issues for more than ten years. She refused to have it removed.

The last time I took her to the emergency room I heard the Dr. tell the nurse to give her Benadryl. The nurse told him she already had it ready.

This was the first time I remembered hearing it so I asked the nurse why my mother was being benadryl. (I was thinking it was a mix up and she didn't really need it)

The nurse said they always give gallbladder patients Benadryl because it stops an attack in its tracks.

I asked her why (yes I am suspicious of everything they do and ask a lot of questions)

She said they don't really know why, they only know it works.

There it is, Take it or leave it.

Most often dietary related. It's her diet! Could be bone loss and calcium buildup.

Look into detoxing the gall bladder. I've known many people who have it removed only to NOT have their symptoms relieved.

drcelltox.com is a good place to start.

The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child.

Your welcome.

The other thing the Doc said was that they believe it is hereditary and it effects women more than men. I have never heard that before. I always heard it was related to the food you ate and yo - yo dieting. (He then proceeded to lecture my adult daughter and I about it. I told him not to worry, we take Benadryl almost every night for allergies. lol)

One of the crappy things is that she ended up having it removed that night so the benadryl info was kind of useless for us. (They gave her so much pain meds she would have agreed to anything.)

The surgery darn near killed her and after she had terrible symptoms. She switched to a gluten free diet and has been symptom free for months now.

She wishes she had tried a gluten free diet before she had it removed. She is thinking that it might have kept her from having so many problems with it and then getting it removed.

Really hhmm. Did not know that.

The 3 of us don't drink (my mother, my daughter and I). To me it tastes nasty, why would I want to drink some thing I don't like unless it's medication. My daughter has a seizure disorder so she can't drink and I am not sure why my mother doesn't drink. (I think it's a control issue for her. She doesn't like to feel out of control)

I read about the remarkable benefits og a glutein free diet when I read Robin McGraw's (Dr. Phil's Wife) book; " Whats Age Got To Do With It?"....BTW She DOES share her beauty and health tips in that book and her sense if humor is an absolute scream!!! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!!! AND.....loved the fact she used eat hot tomales ( the cinnamon candy) like crazy!!!! UNTIL SHE FOUND OUT FROM HER DR. THAT IT AMONG ALOT OF OTHER THINGS SHE WAS PORKING OUT ON WAS FULL OF GLUTEN AND CAUSING HER HEALTH PROBLEMS! ; )

I had mine removed after several attacks last year. I wish I had this info then. I was so afraid because the doc kept sending me on my way with an rx for strong pain meds. All I could think was that they were looking to get another person hooked on opiates to feed the pharmaceutical industry's fat cat pocketbooks. I found that my co-pay for laparoscopic removal was only $100.00. I opted for surgery over pills. I was back at work in 2 days and have only 3 tiny 1/4 inch scars. I have not had any additional issues and perfect bill of health since. The scary part for me was when I looked up the pain meds I was given for total of 4 months and the volume required to keep the pain in check was on par with terminal cancer patients!!!! Thank you for sharing. Your info may save my coworker a whole lot of suffering, as she has no insurance and started having symptoms today. hugs

Re: Benadryl helps stop a Gallbladder attack.
I was a young and otherwise pretty healthy male dealing with gallstones in my teens. It went on for a long time before they thought to check me for them.

The pain was so severe that I would hyperventilate and pass out during some attacks. I found nothing that would help except a shot of morphine in the er. When they took it out there were 50ish pea size stones. I was 16.

Wish I known to try this, although it may have ruptured and was very close to it by the time I got it out. Would have died from it in the not too distant past...

I wonder, do you have to take it as soon as you feel one coming on or do you take it before any symptoms?

Benadryl is also a sleeping pill.

wrong

if this was the case then why does the medical establishment call this treatment dangerous because larger stones could get caught in the duct and cause a blockage?

I had an allergic reaction to Benadryl as well. Face got all flushed, throat felt like I had a big ball in it and I developed hives. I should have gone to the hospital but didn't. I have severe bee sting allergies and keep my epi pen close. I almost used it that night because the symptoms were very similar to my bee sting reaction.

When I worked at a pharmacy, Benadryl was listed many times under drug allergies.
