User ID: 20500808 United States 07/25/2012 02:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I took the plunge back in April for the same reasons you suggest. I had the corporate job that I hated but kept me comfortable. I made good money, but spent my days doing something that I couldn't stand. I was stressed out and miserable. So finally, after wanting to for more than three years, I quit. It didn't make sense to continue to trade my life for money continues to be devalued faster each day. There was a brief period of doubt and anxiety after quitting my job, where I really thought I'd made a horrible mistake. That lasted for a couple of months, but it's gone now and has been replaced by a peaceful contentment as I now have no doubt whatsoever that leaving my job was the correct choice. It really was the ONLY choice if I wanted to truly live a life of meaning. This has become obvious to me now, but I couldn't see this truth from the trenches at my job, it only became clear after leaving the toxic workplace, from the perspective of looking back. I think this is part of a process of becoming free. You have to get through that initial wave of fear and doubt that hits you after reclaiming your life. It is like the guardian at the gate, you have to hang in there and get past him without running back to the conformity of another soul-less job. This what keeps people trapped, they can't get past this guardian. The fear of the unknown is too great. Anyway, take the plunge, live your life, reclaim your independence. Nothing is exactly as it seems, nor is it otherwise. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. |

You know what they say, when you lose everything, you find out what you truly have to hold on too. I can personally say that I've already lost everything due to a work-related injury that is currently in court deliberation. I mean, I lost EVERYTHING. Car, Roof, Health, Livelihood, friends departed from me because I was useless to them now, family even turned their backs to me when I needed them the most. Want to know what I realized? I didn't need any of that shit to be happy. Not even family. Wanna know why? Because when something vacates a place in your life, almost 100% of the time something or someone will step in to take its place. Usually for the better. So even though I'm in excruciating pain EVERY SINGLE DAY SINCE SEPTEMBER of 2011, and have lost everything I worked for, I'm happy. I'm one happy son of a bitch, because I realized what and who really matters to me in this world. -- Archaic Mason 2B1ASK1 "Meet on the level, part on the square." True and I acknowledge that, but in your first post you equate leaving the safety of the cubicle to manual labor, as if there are no other choices available. Posts like that feed the fear I was talking about. We need to empower people, not frighten them even more. In reality there are no such limitations. I would propose entrepreneurship as the obvious new career choice, though manual labor (and many other alternatives) are certainly available to those so inclined. Yeah, but admittedly it's the first choice everyone takes. I thought the same way, but starting a home business is easier now than it ever was with the internet and all of the various technologies available. |
