Its not uncommon for there them to hit methane pockets. Not that its a good thing they are pumping but that isn't an unlikely issue thereof. Make sense to me |

Make sense to me I grew up in Long Beach and its unfortunately typical to have some "fume" pockets occasionally I live next to Long Beach and know what you mean about the gas smell coming from the drilling platforms. There are no drilling platforms, to my knowledge at least, off of the San Diego coast. There might be pipes up and down the coastline, but also there are large pockets of oil and methane. I'm thinking that this is more of a natural occurrence, like the ground moving under the ocean producing and oil and methane burp, like what happens sometimes before an earthquake. That's just my feeling on it anyway, I'm doubting that it's from a broken pipe or anything manmade. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1331258 United States 07/25/2012 03:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Natural gas is odorless, They put substance in commercial gas so you can smell it for safety reason. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18808931 no sir it isn't. Ugh, yeah it is. LNG does not produce an odor and therefore they chemically treat it to emit the smell that you smell. |

So Cal IS due for a large EQ. But I wouldnt worry about the little ones. They let off pressure [link to www.wisegeek.com] Although many people believe that smaller earthquakes serve to delay larger earthquakes by working to relieve pressure on fault lines, this assumption is thought to be incorrect. It’s true that small earthquakes do relieve pressure on fault lines, but it would take many tiny earthquakes to release the amount of energy that would be equivalent to one very large earthquake. In fact, every time an earthquake increases one point on the magnitude scale, it releases 40 times more energy. Therefore, a small earthquake at a magnitude of 2 would need to occur 163,840,000,000 times to relieve the same amount of pressure as one major earthquake with a magnitude of 9. Since having approximately one million earthquakes every day for almost 500 years is highly unlikely, it becomes clear that the purpose of small earthquakes is not to relieve pressure on fault lines in order to delay larger earthquakes. |

TerrorByte User ID: 15766346 United States 07/25/2012 03:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | O.K. it's me again. I live in SD close to La Jolla and my toilet has been bubbling all morning. Is this happening to anyone else in this area? It makes me think of the houses coming off their foundations in Louisiana was it? The other thing I failed to mention cause I forgot about it was besides the green patches on the water there also seemed to be lights in certain areas. My family members said they thought it might be divers, but I don't know cause they were down there for hours and I have never seen that before when having a fire there, which we have done numerous times in the past. I am really starting to feel sort of freaked out by all of this. Any ideas?? And yes I know, call a plumber! LOL |
