I live in Socal, but cannot report smelling these fumes. What I can confirm are my animals acting bat shit crazy for, erm, around a week now. The earthquake this morning, at 330AM, still hasn't tamed their, erm, whatever it is. My pets have completely lost it. |

When I called the Gas Co. they said "it was coming from the ocean." This was odd because when we moved toward the ocean there was no gas smell there. The gas was "on land." Hours later they (the Gas Co.) found a leaking gas pipe on land and fixed it. Dunno if that's the same issue now, but that was what happened a year or so ago. |

Lifeguards in Encinitas were first to report the strong, pungent odor at about 5 p.m. The odor was described as a gas-like smell rolling in off the ocean. Soon after, 10News was flooded with calls. Residents from the coast all the way to Rancho Bernardo and 4S Ranch reported experiencing the smell. Some complained of headaches and outdoor activities were canceled. One Del Mar resident who did not want to be identified was inside the library in Cardiff at about 5 p.m. when the gas-like odor filled the entire building with the doors closed. A red "break news" banner at the top of the site, stating that there had been an Earthquake this morning in Los Angeles... I thought.. "OMG! It must have been huge!" So I clicked on the banner to read, and it said... 3.8 magnitude quake... 3.8? Ok, at this point I was thinking.. "wtf? thats small! why would weather.com be putting up a red 'breaking news' banner for such a small quake?" ...and then I read about this thread, and read about these strange smells off the Cali coast... Perhaps there IS more to this? I mean, seriously, why WOULD a website like weather.com make such a big deal out of a small, measly 3.8 quake that is like, something that LA probably experiences on almost a daily basis?
