I use Logic 8, but without a decent audio interface it sounds crap ! Consider buying some height of the last tech wave, it's cheap, and has the character you'll be busy trying to recapture once you suss everything on the DAW is going through the same interface.. The best advice fellow musicians give to another is always buy, buy, buy Do you have the real Roland yourself mate? Got the Boss pedal thing meself and i'm a bit disappointed with how it sounds tbh, not that very different from the UAD plugin, expected something better. |

I was looking at NI's Massive and they have some sweet sample packs I would like to get my hands on. But this shit is starting to add up in the wallet department. That's why I am asking advice before I roll out the cash. Getting NI Massive was the best thing I ever did.I have alot of synths and this is my number 1. Here's the last track I used the synth on and made using Cubase 5? Does anyone else here use cubase. I also used to have a pro tools HD system but went back to cubase. Dynasty Electric - Eye Wide Open (Gridkeeper remix) Drums from my own kit. Bass from Massive inc wobble bass. Chords/synth from Massive Strings, FX and pads from Korg Vanguard [link to soundcloud.com] p.s. it's also a free download. Ah no, best advice is that limitation can often force you to be more creative, and that too much gear can 'own' you .. I love all the Roland space echo/ chorus machines 201/501 etc. I don't have one anymore, servicing.. But really it's the saturated tape; two old reel to reels do the trick for cheap, and longer loops are possible; in fact Delia derbyshire produced this with no synthesisers, just an oscillator, a few household objects, reel to reels and tape.. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 17713280 Canada 07/17/2012 01:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | FL is extremely powerful, don't listen to the comments about it being "amateurish", it might intentionally look that way for the sake of user friendliness (which is what many users prefer), but it is far being an amateur DAW. The quality of your finished product truly depends on the external plugins/hardware you are going to use and most importantly, and your knowledge of audio engineering. FL, Cake, PT, Ableton, etc etc, are simply virtual sequencing desktops to lay all those things together. The only thing that really differentiates these DAWs are their native plugins and workflow architecture. If you go on youtube, FL is the most widely used DAW amongst the indie uploaders, you'll hear anything ranging from very weak and poorly mixed tracks by some 15 year olds to very professional hard hitting club bangers. I've been on FL for 11 years now and I'm comfortable where I am. |

Totally agreed there, got through this phase meself as well with countless vst's and shit just for the flavor collection and in the end it was hard to do the job properly, got lost. I got a much more simple and sophisticated setup now with some analog flavors, that it just works for me. Best advice is educate, educate and practice, practice. I love the real Roland sound too, but they are a bitch to service here in Greece and getting more expensive by the month. |

I might just change the title to DAW's, VST's, and Sample Packs for the sake of so many people using different DAW's. |

I think service is expensive everywhere, I've got a couple of analogues that I like and I stick to them rather than hoarding a Jarre-like money pit ! I've got a JD800 that has red glue oozing out of its' keys that's pissing me off right now, it's a design fault that Roland wont honour anymore, and costs more to fix than buying another JD800 ! |

Ive made some sick deep/dirty wobble with that program and i recommend it to soft synth fans. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19918251 That is actually what I have been looking into the last few days. Any recomendation on some tutorials on how to make a good filthy wobble bass? Pull me from the gallows of this fiber-optic nation |

User ID: 17921068 United States 07/17/2012 04:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I use fl with all the packs, plug ins etc, not as good as ableton but it is good. I'm producing heavy metal and blues, and haven't had any problems layering, mixing, or mastering. Quoting: erik_vengeance Thanks for the feedback Erik. I'm just curious: What kind of VST's and sample packs do you use? I am a metel head as well and would like to dable in that as well! I use the hardcore and slayer plug ins. If I record something using like audacity, the mastering for strings or any of the general mastering 1-4 plug ins work good. Takes a little while to get used to, but now I can make studio quality recordings using that technique. I think the hardcore setting has over 100 different cabinets/effects, which is awesome, especially when playing live. The time has come for all to see, the men behind the curtain writhe in self defeat... |
