Murderer writes letter to newspaper gloating about his life of leisure behind bars | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 18557408 United States 07/04/2012 05:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Most people imagine prison life for convicted murderers as being harsh, brutal, and isolated, a real-life "Shawshank Redemption." Quoting: Debauchery So when convicted killer Danny Robbie Hembree Jr., 50, wrote a letter in January to the Gaston Gazette in North Carolina, gloating about his comfortable life on death row, it got plenty of attention. "Is the public aware that I am a gentleman of leisure, watching color TV in the A.C., reading, taking naps at will, eating three, well-balanced, hot meals a day," Hembree wrote. Critics say too often, at prisons across the country, convicted killers pass the time playing dominos and basketball, use well-stocked commissaries selling snacks and sodas, and enjoy state-of-the-art gyms, or time in the arts and crafts room. Robert Blecker, a New York Law School professor and pro-death-penalty advocate, has spent the past 25 years documenting his provocative and controversial view, that life inside state penitentiaries and maximum-security prisons can actually be an undeservedly pleasant experience for convicted killers. "They're playing on softball fields with lined base paths and umpires in uniforms, while other guys are hanging out, getting a suntan," Blecker said. "Those who committed the worst crimes, who deserve to suffer the most, generally suffer the least." Blecker, who is producing a documentary and writing a book about the issue, said most Americans are clueless about the reality of prison life. He said prison life can be so comfortable that some convicts claim to have killed just to get put away, like Robert Pitts of Woodbury, Tenn., who was convicted of first-degree murder after beating a 63-year-old grandmother to death with a lead pipe. "I can play pool or basketball," Pitts told Blecker, who interviewed him for his upcoming documentary. "Softball when it's softball season. Run, you can go out and jog, lift weights, play cards." [link to abcnews.go.com] Richard Speck the freaking murderer was video taped taking drugs and having sex with his boyfriend and laughing about his murders while saying he was having the time of his life while incarcerated. He even was taking drugs to grow big boobs. |

Maybe get a job outside a prison if it makes you that miserable or start a legalize torture campaign. Yes, I do think about this shit because people like you don't. I think it's a pretty big deal when the lowest of the low are treated better than ordinary, non-violent, non-criminal citizens. If you don't like what I have to say get the fuck out of my thread. I'm already working on the campaign, hopefully one day soon we'll be able to torture kiddie rapists and murderers. And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it. I am an evil giraffe, and I shall eat more leaves from this tree than perhaps I should, so that other giraffes may die. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 19137811 United States 07/04/2012 05:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i work in a UK high security prison. Let me add a perspective : Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4214359 Here are some of the other things they "get" to do/have in prison that aren't mentioned in the article. Quoting: Debauchery Sex with guards, inmates, visitors, prison staff.[/quuote] In UK , staff get suspended following an investigation. If proven then they get fired and possibly charged by police. ... If you're innocent then you'd want to help fight your case. ... Money can be sent in by others and is placed into an account for them to buy soap/tobacco/food. In UK prisoners can earn about £25 a week maximum. College Degrees You know, to help them change their ways so they have an income for when they get out. Drugs/Alcohol Quoting: acDrugs are smuggled in, usually by visitors. Alcohol is brewed with fruit/bread/sugar. If caught with either they face outside prison charges and an extension on their sentence or loss off privileges. Prescriptions/health care/dental care/eye glasses Quoting: acYes they are allowed to stay alive and not die due to untreated illness. Tattoo's and messages. Quoting: acIf you get caught you get loss of privileges They get to order out of a catalog of allowable items tax free and often at extreme discounts because of the prison contract with outside vendors. TV, Steroes, Magazine subscriptions, clothes, shoes, games, baseball and sports equipment. Quoting: acThey order out of the same catalogue anyone orders out of. Their prices are the same as mine. They get use of computers and training. In some prisons they are hired to make airline and hotel reservations for companys that have prison labor contracts for telemarketing. Quoting: acThis is by Cat-D prisoners.. IE they are in open prison environment. Their crimes aren't serious or they are close to being released. In some prisons they get to have animals on death row. Dogs and cats. Quoting: ACNot in the UK Some prisons have mobile homes inside the fence which are rented out in 2-3 stretches for conjugal visits. Quoting: acNot in UK State sponsored wedding. Quoting: acI've heard of people getting married in prison chapels. I've never witnessed it first hand at my place of work. Pen Pal exchange with single men and women outside the joint. Quoting: acThey can write to whoever they want as long as they aren't breaking any security, being threatening or breaking any court order. Chapel and religious alters including the state paying for alters for Satanists and other "religious" materials. Quoting: acWe have a chapel, well it's a large room with a cross on one end and some chairs. Never heard of anyone doing any satanist shit in it, the cons usually use it to chat to their mates on other wings. I could go on for an hour...you get my point. Quoting: acYou could, but unless you actually know what it's like inside then it'd be pointless. With the OP. The reason the prisoners get simple luxuries is down to the money. When you have 150 prisoners on a wing with no TV/Radio/Kettle whatever then they get bored. When this happens they kidnap, fight, assault staff and kill each other. If you give them something to occupy themselves then violence goes down and high staffing levels are no longer needed. You could pay the wages of 15 staff, with 5 on sick leave due to injuries/stress at work or you could pay the wages of just 6 staff on the same wing and give the cons a TV each. Unfortunately saving money always wins. Right. They commit horrific crimes and instead of being properly punished and having all of the little luxuries taken away they are given whatever is needed to calm them, they're still fucking the system. They run you, they own you, when it should be the other way around. Norway has a wonderfully luxurious prison, Halden prison, with a fucking sound studio. They even hired a graffiti artist to paint murals all over the place with a price tag of $1 mil. They have private bathrooms and flat screen tv's. How ridiculous can you get? |

Hey, California prisons are required to provide hormone therapy to drag queens and they're pushing for us to pay for their sex changes even though the operations aren't medically necessary and do nothing but change appearance. I think prisoners in several states have petitioned the courts for the operation. Like I said, shit is getting ridiculous. He even was taking drugs to grow big boobs. Yep, that's true. He sold autographs to guards for favors and ran most of that prison because he was considered a hero. He filmed a selfmade documentary and mailed it to a news channel. They showed it on the news. He was sitting topless (with a huge rack) next to a LARGE pile of cocaine and chatting with his prison "wife". He mocked the justice system and said he could do anything "in there" that people do "outside". Including murder. He even joked that he could get a child smuggleled into the prison for his pleasure...anytime he wanted....but that he didn't want to because he wasn't "some sicko". |

Not only do you want more and more people in jail, but you want them to REALLY suffer. The prison industry Thrives on you assholes. You cry about your fucking taxes that you pay at the same time that the US has more people in jail than the rest of the world combined. And most of them are there because YOU don't like their lifestyle. You don't want them to do drugs or anything else against your precious beliefs. You want everybody to LIVE RIGHT, By GOD, or send them off to prison. Fuck all you self-righteous Christians. When you stop spending all OUR money on wars and conquests, THEN maybe we can talk about getting some rationality in welfare and prisons. |

Did you bother reading anything posted? This isn't about non-violent criminals, it's about murderers, rapists and pedos being treated like royalty behind bars. It's about being allowed to send trash to the media about how wonderful it is in there in an effort to taunt the family members of their victims. It's about being able to do pretty much anything you'd like despite what you've done to others, despite the laws you've broken and we're not talking about some stoner with an ounce of weed that got clipped at a traffic stop. Before you run your mouth again read the shit first and then maybe, just maybe you won't look like an ass. By the way, I'm not a Christian. Not everyone that is moral and decent that believes in severe punishment for violent offenders is tied to Christianity.
