what they do to these children and adults is beyond belief
from them being AUTHORIZED BY THE STATE and supposedly ""trained"" to force them TO WORK at mindless useless bs tasks
and WHEN they refuse due to their lack of comprehension and protest according to their intellect and disorders--they can start THEIR bs by showing them????forcing them in reality by taking their hands and making them DO whatever bs task they are supposed to be doing
and if the ""consumer"" RESISTS--they can restrain them in a chair---THIS IS BS/
can ANYONE IMAGINE TELLING THE PsOS ON WELFARE that THEY MUST GO OUT AND PERFORM WORK IN THEIR COMMUNITY ? OR ELSE ?
and IF THEY REFUSE....to start a restrain procedure and if they resist being restrained why restrain them by all 4s ?

Seriously though, the use of aversives is commonplace in behaviour management circles. The JRC just happens to be the most extreme and therefore receives the most publicity. Dr.Israel recently resigned as part of a plea deal. There is apparently some sort of temporary order in place preventing the use of the device on new intakes until further order of the Court. Longterm residents who have an established behaviour plan that already includes skin shocks may continue receiving them.

Skin shock is the most extreme. Forced exercise, exposure to very loud noises (ie. noise canon used in crowd control), having ammonia repeatedly sprayed in the clients eyes at timed intervals, ice cold showers, are often used as alternatives to skin shock.

How come not as many people get mad and discuss this like they do with the child molester threads? This is worse than what most pedos do to kids

Yeah, I drive right by this place on my way to one of my accounts. It's been going on for many years now. I'm a bit surpirzed as to it becoming an issue now and not back then, but shock therapy is pretty barbaric imho.

Yes it is true. Ive known about this place for years.

Please read the whole thing before going off the handle and sending replies to disagree, or being stupid. Close to the end, I clarify HOW it should be used, and my personal views on using it on a kid.

I think shock treatment is a really good thing, and does work. TO use this because someone is exhibiting a undesired behavior and using the shock to punish them is UNACCEPTABLE. To use it to promote cognitive lessons, IN A TREATMENT SITUATION, cn be a very good thing with positive results. Uing only enough power to cause discomfort, but not a punishing jolt to cause pain. Some (if not most) problems that people have mentally stem from a part of the brain that is 'mis-wired' or cognitively trained improperly. This is a part of the human brain that can't accept verbal reasoning to change how it works, but requires a shock or some other type of reaction to the senses that can draw the attention of the cognitive part of the brain. When a person is shocked, The cognitive part of the brain that functions without thinking (That controls our bodily functions, and essentially how we process the information we take in) learns from the shock (Depending on how the doctor/technician uses it). IF I were to use shock therapy on anyone reading this, and did it in such a way to 'reward' or promote a desired brain function, I could essentially teach your brain that the shock is a good thing. Just like everyone reading this right now... IF you've ever been shocked, it's usually been a bad thing associated with it (careless electrocution, tasered by the police, etc), so being shocked is simply bad, and you make most of your post assuming that being shocked = BAD. Just think from both sides of the fence before you go banning all shock treatments and standing up for things you have no idea about.


HOWEVER, There's some other important things about all of this... The person this treatment is being applied to should fully understand that it's a medical proceedure and not torture, and the person should also be fully consenting to it.

If this was being done on a 4-5 year old, That would be unacceptable because they do not know what's going on, and could be seen by the child as abusive behavior. It should NEVER be a mandated option either. Parents, The child in question, and the doctor should all be informed and involved with shock therapy, and all parties involved should be fully self-consenting before even considering this. If the child or parent has any doubts about the treatments, It will most certainly cause more harm to the child's cognitive process, and make the problems worse, or cause new problems.

but yes, If these people are using *SEVERE* shocks to punish mentally handicapped children for actions they can't control, Then shame on these people and it does need to be stopped immediately. They may think they're doing good and this method works, but they could be causing more mentally cognitive problems for these children it's being used on, and even the children that watch it being used on the others.

I hope you all see that I am not supporting this particular case, but do see both sides of the fence and do see what 'good' can come of shock treatments WHEN IT'S USED PROPERLY!
