Monsanto is not going to like this one bit, I am sure you're onto something now that I think about it. Did someone in Monsanto piss him off? Sodas are made with high fructose corn syrup which is derived from corn and popcorn is also apart of Con Agra foods, which is supplied by monsanto. Im going to google around for Con Agra and Bloomberg to see what I find. Great investigating!!!

Is he suggesting we buy candy bars and water instead? Seems like that would be the same amount of calories... and more.

Seems we've all been raised on popcorn. It's an American snack!

(Anybody ever smuggle popcorn into a theater before?)

Our drive-in theater does not allow outside food in the theater. They claim that they do not make money to keep the theater operating because of the movie they show, they make their money to operate because of the snack bar.

Popcorn!!! Okay that is where I draw the line! High Fructose Corn Syrup laden soda is one thing (give me a glass bottle of Mexican Coke anyday) but to go after popcorn is too far! If you don't make it with hydrogenated coconut oil and actually use organic coconut oil and real butter you have a nutritious snack that's high in fiber. How dare the mayor go this far! I bet it will be okay buy a super Gulp of aspartame poisoned Diet Coke won't it? I'd follow the money to who is it that created aspartame... Monsanto? I don't remember but I was furious when they forced their poison into every pack of chewing gum including gum sweetened with sugar. The fascists make me sick, literally.

Read up on a beautiful Australian actress named Abby Cormack. She was almost hospitalized in a mental ward cause of the frightening symptoms of chewing gum that has the aspartame. She was getting brain fog, panic attacks and other symptoms

That stuff is a literal poison.

Almost every piece of food we eat is conaminated in some way with something. If you wanna ban all the food that's got some crap in it then we won't have anything left to eat.

Now thats funny!! It doesn't matter that the economy is so bad we can't afford the "big" popcorn. But lets ban the popcorn. OMG..

Do you think they are worried about that in Iraq, Pakistan, Syria, or any other country that doesn't even have food to live on?

What a fucked up world!

I suspect eventually, we won't be allowed to even handle raw meat or veggies. All cooked and portioned for the idiots since the nanny state knows best.

I gave some jars of food I canned to a family in need who had CPS in their home because they were taking care of relative's children. CPS said the home canned food had to be removed from the home so how long before they say parents can't be trusted to properly cook chicken.

We continue to allow this from our elected and we get just what we deserve in return.

Re: FOOD POLICE: Mayor Bloomberg's Soda Ban Proposal Could Include... POPCORN
A scientific paper, Liquid versus solid carbohydrate: effects on food intake and body weight. Basically, when we consume sugar in solid form, our body knows how much we're eating and regulates our appetite, but when the sugar is in liquid form, our body doesn't recognize it and we drink too much and get fat. On top of this, the paper correlates the increase in American obesity with increased consumption of sweetened drinks by adults. Note that this cannot be a complete explanation of the obesity epidemic, because lab animals and pets are also getting fatter.

Other studies say DIET SODAS make people fatter, not skinnier!

We left Manhattan, as have many others

It just doesn't make sense any more. Between the insane property taxes, income taxes, regulations, the cost of housing, the wretched commutes and the increasingly lousy job market, it doesn't make sense.

I don't see how it is sustainable, because NYC esp. needs so much in tax revenue to just keep the lights on, I have no idea where they are going to find the additional middle class and businesses to fleece.

Young people especially don't see a reason to remain in New York making at best $25 an hour, when a share in a walkup apartment in a bad part of town is $1200 month.

So what if the rich still live there? Most of the ones I knew kept their permanent residences in Florida or Texas or some other no-tax state, so the city doesn't benefit from them the way it does from an average joe wage slave.

The artists left a long time ago, and small business owners like me have found greener pastures in the South. As the financial industry keeps shrinking and getting hit by the global slowdown, there goes a major source of revenue

You'd think Mayor Mike, who made his fortune from the financial industry, would be more savvy and do more to make the city competitive, instead of focusing on idiocy like banning fast food. Instead, he's just proven himself to be one more self-absorbed rich narcissist without a clue

As a result of all of these issues, New York is the #1 state and city which people leave. That's quite an accomplishment, given how screwed up California is, lol:

[link to news.investors.com]

New York thinks of itself as the place to be, but its high taxes have made it a place to flee. Those who have escaped the Empire State tax man could fill a major city.

From 1949 to 1961, more than 2.6 million of East Germany's 17 million population escaped to West Berlin or West Germany, a hemorrhage of humanity that led the Communists to construct the infamous Berlin Wall in 1961

We say that there’s a twenty dollar walking-out-the-door-tax for NYC residents; no matter what you do, the minute you walk out of your apartment you’ve somehow spent 20 bucks.

It will be that way sooner or later, it will look just like a dystopian dictatorship movie where there is a supercity with soldiers all over and computer drones watching everyone, all the food is garbage but the packages are pretty and it tastes good so nobody complains.

so when will they institute the stool cam to make sure ones' bowel movements are the right texture, consistency and amount????

Or the new UA urine test when evacuating???

Or how about the measuring device to check the tartar on ones' teeth to make sure the 'socialized' care is covering everything....do not want someones poor oral hygiene to impact the heart...

Or the sleep modulator bed with zero point activation

6 am arrives and the bed gives you a small electrical charge to assist in awakening

Or some stabilizers for very high heels, cannot have a morbidly obese woman, or man it would seem falterring and toppling over, must add stabilizers, no more pesky ankly injuries...from heels

and lets modify the weather so we do not have accidents on ice

perhaps some rubber banding around cars, ice skaters, snowskiers, jetskiers, rollerbladers, and do not allow ANY running ANYWHERE

In fact, if everyone stops breathing and simply die, no one would ever have to suffer harm

frickin' pansies
