Breaking News Deadly E-coli Outbreak!
From ABC News, a virulent and deadly strain of E.coli has been linked to 11 cases in four southern states. The death of a 21 month old Louisiana baby has been linked to what the CDC fears will be a widespread outbreak of E.coli poisoning. Other cases, 10 so far, have been confirmed in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama.

"We know that these cases are all linked, and that would suggest that there was a common source somewhere along the way," J. Patrick O'Neal of the Georgia Department of Health told ABC News. "We just don't know where."

Have not located the source as yet.

The CDC says they have identified the bacteria but not the source.

Re: Breaking News Deadly E-coli Outbreak!
E. coli O145 outbreaks have been more of a problem in Europe and Australia, but the O145 strain is becoming an important public health problem in the United States.

Identifying E. coli O145 can be difficult1:

Unlike E. coli O157:H7 strains, which generally do not ferment sorbitol or have b-glucuronidase activity, the non–O157 STEC EHEC (including E. coli O145) do not have identifiable biochemical markers to facilitate screening for these pathogens.
