Proposed legislation in NY would remove anonymous postings on websites.
Proposed legislation in both chambers would require New York-based websites, such as blogs and newspapers, to "remove any comments posted on his or her website by an anonymous poster unless such anonymous poster agrees to attach his or her name to the post."

Republican Assemblyman Jim Conte said the legislation would cut down on "mean-spirited and baseless political attacks"

NYS is going after those big bag cyber bullies

Heres the bill:

and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence."

Re: Proposed legislation in NY would remove anonymous postings on websites.
Dumbasses that propose these things have no clue how difficult it would be to enforce.

You gonna make every website that comes through a new york isp server to a ny customer install special software to prevent it?

Or are they going to form an internet police force to track down anonymous posters and cite them for posting anonymously? Fine them? Make them appear in court?

Can you imagine what sort of infrastructure of software and personnel would be required to enforce such a law?

So how would glp or any other website be required to appear and function differently in ny state without them having to be somehow modified to comply?

The dumbshits that come up with this shit obviously don't use the internet themselves.

New York is following in California’s footsteps and killing local businesses one way or another and since this stupidity is only enforceable on New York based, websites it only hurts NY based websites.

how can a website ever be new york based?

wtf does this mean, apart from the obvious domain name registration.

but does a domain name registration detail make a website based at the address on register?

Re: Proposed legislation in NY would remove anonymous postings on websites.
after careful reading

i would like to clarify what this bill means.

it does not ban or prevent anonymous postings.

but if the website administrator is based in NY then they will have to remove specific anonymous posts on request from their website.
