I have a Meade EXT 125 .

Friday night while adjusting the night I spotted one bright donut shaped object. It was relatively bright but kind of , well not solid. Hard to explain.

It was not moving. Western sky.
Turned to the southern sky saw several more in varying stages of brightness. The fainter ones fading in and out.

Last night I checked again, they were everywhere.

Could not be seen with the naked eye and not visible thru the viewfinder.

Hundreds of them.

Star halos?

But there was an anomalie on one.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12597019

Oh, and I failed to mention, THEY appeared to be the size of a high moon.

In other words they were BIG, like the size of a lifesaver candy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12597019

Your trippin me out with what you are saying lol. I have no idea what this could be.
 Quoting: MarketSellOff

I had considered posting a thread, but thought it was too weird.

There is more to this story. I will post tomorrow if I get some answers. If not I will just keep the rest of the story to myself.

Your scope is out of collimation.

Stars looked fine tonight and were where they should be. My mount tracked fine as I took a couple series of images. Need to process them later this week and try to get some darks the next cloudy night.

holy shit, im in oz and i can tell you, you are correct ive been saying this also and getting weird looks from my family but its so true the stars dont look right, they look closer and different, i couldnt put my finger on it also here the sky is normally a bright blue lately its been a pale blue so pale its weird and here in oz we get these blue skies but not pale blue. I felt like i was looking at a fake sky but we get masses of chemtrails so i thought maybe the chemtrails were doing it. Also we have had no moon since the so called supermoon where i live and that is weird too. But noone seems to care much when i mention it.

Just went outside for a cig and looked up at the stars, they all look "strange" i guess? They all looked brighter than normal and looked "closer" i guess. I'm in myrtal beach SC for reference. But yeah, i'm not stoned or on any drugs right now. 100% sober.
 Quoting: Epicbiscuit

"i'm not stoned or on any drugs right now." - well sir I believe we've found the problem, I bet if you were stoned or on drugs they would appear to you as they normally appear to you...

good day to you sir...

Leave the guy alone.

Something weird is going on in the sky.

I saw hundred of anomalies on Friday and Saturday that no one can find an explanation for.

Never been stoned and was not drunk. Not a drop.

Sorry to correct you: It's not a matter of collimation, it's a matter of focus.

Telescope question

What are all those lifesaver shaped objects that I can only be seen thru the eyepiece?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12597019

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12597019

The pattern is called airy disk. It happens when a scope is way out of focus.
If in addition the dark spot is not centered in the airy disk it needs collimation. In that case most likely you have to send it to Meade.

If you don't know how to bring the scope into focus: RTFM

If you are just trolling: lame try.

I mean shit, you know what...

Since the going rate theory is that the stars are only visible because of earth's atmosphere, and aren't even visible in space...

Then it's entirely plausible that the stars could look different for earth based reasons.
 Quoting: Mister Obvious

good point.

it could also be "the fluff," regardless of if you want to call it leaving an old area or moving into a new area.

it's possible, although highly unlikely, that our entire solar system is being "stolen" by another galaxy.

hell, anything is possible really...

Re: Do the stars look strange to you?
I noticed this Moon shaped object about 7:00pm 5/20/12. I was taking pics of the planes leaving trails across the Sun when this object caught my eye. It looks like a small half Moon. Has anyone every noticed anything that looks like this. I had to zoom in to get the shape. These are just still shots although I also have a video of it. I could not tell it was moving and it was barely visible to me. The planes were laying down trails to cover the Sun when I noticed it.

Peace

Re: Do the stars look strange to you?
Well, I don't know, but I can tell you, my hubby... the worlds greatest skeptic... had me come outside on Friday night to see the sky... He wanted verification about what he was seeing. I went out, and he pointed to 3 stars that had a red and yellow look to them... they were lined up in the sky from south to north and we didn't see one constelation we recognized.. and there were lots of stars. Very weird indeed.
And as a footnote.. my worlds greatest skeptic asked me to check GLP to see if anyone else was seeing what we were seeing... he usually rolls his eyes to the ceiling when I tell what I'm reading on GLP.. so this was monumental!

edit: we were camping in the North Whiteshell.. which is near the border of Ontario, in eastern, central Manitoba.

We could not see the eclipse in my area. The Sun was still out and this object was not in the same location. This is way too far away to be the Moon although it looks like a Moon. I had to zoom way in to see the shape of this object. It is cloudy tonight and nothing is visible.

Peace to you and all

Re: Do the stars look strange to you?
I know this is an old thread but, I'm outside and the stars look "strange". I am 100% sober and I have prefect vision. I'm working out in the mountains of West Virginia, and it's a clear night. A lot of the stars look "strange". They almost all seem to be 2 separate points of light with very thin red points on the tops and bottoms and even thinner blue lines in the middle. Other people here at work are seeing it too. Does anybody know what is going on?
