Is the term Christian Prepper an oxymoron?
Is the term Christian Preppers an oxymoron?

The bible would seem to say that we should not be "preppers". Am I reading it correctly?

As a Christian, what do you think?

Here are some sample verses...

"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' Luke 12:20

Luke 12:27 "Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these"

19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Matthew 6:19-21
But Lord, he stinketh!

You're exactly right. As Christians living in these last days we aren't to "prep" for anything except the coming of Jesus! That's not to say we shouldn't do our part to provide for our daily needs, etc, because of course we should. When the tribulation starts however and the TRUE remnant of God can't buy or sell because they refuse to take the mark of the beast etc, that's when God will work mightily for His people, just like He did for the children of Israel as they were leaving Egypt! Our bread and water will be sure, and He will provide for us and protect us from the 7 last plagues that are going to fall on the unsaved, just like He protected the children of Israel from the plagues that fell on Egypt!.\ We have nothing to fear, unless we're NOT on God's side!

Thank you. This question has been on my mind. When I read of people prepping etc... these passages come to me. I tried to decide between faith and provisions.

I hope/pray faith wins out!

Only a fool would see the signs of a storm coming and ignore it. My advise to you is to prep with all of the Abilities that God has given you, and trust in him as the lilies do. There is a reason Jesus said you would know the times and seasons. And you can strive to fulfill Daniel 12:3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens , and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.

Prov 27:12 (HCSB)
12A sensible person sees danger and takes cover; the inexperienced keep going and are punished.

You shouldn't store up treasures on earth but if you're prepared when hard times come then you will be able to freely give to others. I'm preparing just so people will have a place to go when they are faced with a mark. It will also be a great witnessing tool whenever the government will try to force a mark on people before they can buy or sell and I will be able to give it to them freely.

"Consider the lilies" there is no need to worry about whether or not you have enough God will provide. The Word is always about doing what you can and God will do the rest. If I just sit back and do nothing then clearly I don't believe God's warnings about the end times. If I do what I can God will provide the rest. God knows your heart and intentions so this will be different for each and every person.

The verse about the fool that was hording everything up for himself is an example of the type of prepper that will get all of the canned goods and ammo that he can carry and sit in a bunker and try to ride it out without thinking of anyone else. That's clearly against the teachings of the bible because we're supposed to serve others and put them before ourselves. Not sharing when you think that you might not have enough is a lack of faith in God.

The world view is to horde everything up and try to ride out the storm, but Jesus said give.
The world says arm yourself and fight off everyone that tries to take what is yours, but Jesus says he that lives by the sword will die by the sword.
It's just a matter of your world view.
