Watched TV for the first time in 7 years. I was floored how obvious the control, hate and fear mongering is. Can't people see it???

I must say, fast food is bad but it affects people differently.

I'm surprised there haven't been more TV threads on GLP. TV is a HUGE part of the problem, the main component of the False Reality and dumbing-down of America.

Let's examine a few points further:

1) "Friends" is, in my opinion, single-handedly the most destructive show in American television history. A book could be written on the social conditioning mechanisms this show conveyed and produced over its many-years span. Those who watch it, in a Sheeple-like stupor, are awash in deception and a confused unreality and false expectation.

2) The past decade has seen the advent of the most anti-intellectual garbage ever produced possibly in the history of mankind.

3) Violence is glorified to an extent as never seen before.

4) TeeVee is now officially a replacement for a home-life, friends, relationships.

5) TeeVee news is the biggest joke of all: editorialized, infotainment poop for your brain.

6) The Weather Channel doesn't even show actual weather half the time anymore.

7) The yelling, ranting and idiotic hyperbole of Washington's most inane wonks was once reserved for a show called "Crossfire" on CNN. One thirty minute show where these idiots could spout off like morons and yell and talk over each other.

Now it's ALL day on Fox and MSNBC and to a lesser extent, CNN. Moronic pundits yelling and barking incessantly, acting more and more as social activists rather than journalists.

8) Americans are deeply invested in their TeeVee CHARACTERS. You will notice on the biggest shows -- NCIS, CSI, other mindless trash -- the characters are one-dimensional, never change, never make serious mistakes. They are very constant. Why? The TV whizes know how important that is to their viewers. There's backlash if a character does something "out of character" -- Americans are CO-DEPENDENT on their fake TeeVee friends. (Also applies to movies and books, very evident in the Twilight series, with a wild fanbase full of losers, another subject deserving of a thread unto itself).

I've, personally, never given a shit what a "favorite" character of mine does. Who gives a fuck? The amount people INVEST in their false reality is astonishing.

9) Compare "Modern Family" to the "Dick Van Dyke Show" (Dick Van Dyke is a hero and a great man, by the way).

Compare the two. We are so fucked up now -- but it's done with a smile and a laugh. It's cute to be decadent, crude, fucked up, idiotic, selfish, drugged up and a complete piece of trash.

10) TV completely warps our minds as to what life is, what it should be about, what to expect, how we compare ourselves to others, our moral choices and values (sitcoms playing a huge role in this).

Yes, some TV has value and is produced by good people -- maybe 10% of it.

It's something that might deserve our attention for a few hours of the WEEK. Not seven hours a day.

Otherwise it's just a long drawn out death throe...

I have to say, there is no just watching it and being careful any more than there is taking crack responsibly. It's not just the commercials. There is constant subliminal programming. The shows express constant fear, self loathing and hate. If you belief that it doesn't change you, you are kidding yourself.

Several years ago...my cable service was upgraded. But I noticed at night when I shut it off with the remote...the screen didn't go completely black...it stayed dimly lit unless I manually turned it off.

It came with this free charter channel. I didn't watch it cause I didn't like figuring it out on the remote for one, and didn't like the programming on it either. The cable company kept calling me asking if I had a problem gaining access to it. I kept telling them no, just didn't want to watch it.

After several calls they said they would send a tech out to show me how to work the remote. I kept telling them no, I didn't care to watch it. He kept pushing its greatness...and I kept wondering how they knew I wasn't watching it? Was it tied into the screen that didn't go completely off?

After the 7th call and I lied, told them I'd been watching the channel and I loved it! The guy paused...didn't know what to say. Asked again if I needed someone to come out and show me how it works I said NOPE! Figured it all out myself! I cancelled the service and haven't missed it at all.

It's a fact, women are far more easily deceived than men. This is even biblical. But I'm sure you REALLY hate the truth, because of that.

How is seething with anger and resentment an any more pleasant way to live? No wonder the sheeple don't want to wake up, if their waking up causes them to be as angry, paranoid and dispassionate as you. (Not trying to attack you or anything, just trying to get my point across!)

No wonder nobody wants to wake up. The ones who wake up become so angry and disillusioned, and then gather together on various sites to talk meanly about all the unawakened ones. What's the point of living in this messed up world at all then? Either be asleep and mostly unhappy and sedated, or wake up and be miserable and angry.

Sorry for butting in, but the anger and resentment is the point. There will come a day when all this mind-numbing poison is taken away from the masses. Whether it be from a natural or intentional event, I believe it will happen.

Take the masses' 'soma' away from them and they will see what the reality is and they won't like it. They won't be able to 'escape' anymore. They will go crazy. There will be anger and resentment like you wouldn't believe. Then it will be time to 'get out of Dodge' as fast as you can.

So I for one will keep just a bit of anger and resentment at what is being done, so that I can deal with what will come, when it comes. When it does, there'll be precious little room for sweetness and light.

I don't feel you are butting in. I find your post interesting. However, I have to say that I see things much differently, then again, I always seem to. *grin*

I believe that if humanity's constant, powerful and evil mind control was removed, I can honestly say that I believe people would turn "God-like". What I mean by that is that the mind control keeps people lost, confused, full of anger and hate and afraid. If we were no longer "jabbed with a pitchfork" daily, we would be very passive, loving beings in my view.

I may break this idea into a separate thread because it is SO important. People are constantly told that humanity is no better than beasts. We are evil, dangerous beings that must be kept under control by advanced beings. Without them, we would destroy each other. BULLSHIT!

This is a trick! This is a con. We are really very advanced and powerful spiritual beings that have become trapped in this physical reality (in these bodies). We are kept trapped by making us forget our true heritage and our true power.

Just think about this idea and see what your heart tells you.

the tv i watch is: fun, creative, compelling & imaginative. a really nice thing to do at the end of the day to relax.
