Orthodox Easter consists of a series of celebrations (movable feasts) commemorating the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Quoting: Vasile.Lupu It is customary among Orthodox Christians to greet one another during Easter season with the Paschal greeting. The salutation begins with the phrase, "Christ is Risen!" The response is "Truly, He is Risen!" In the Orthodox tradition, eggs are a symbol of new life. Early Christians used eggs to symbolize the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the regeneration of believers. At Easter, eggs are dyed red to represent the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross for the redemption of all men. To all of you friends celebrating Easter this weekend, "Christ is Risen!" and peace to all! Ummmm,no* |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11765896 Why the differing dates to celebrate? Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. The First Council of Nicaea (325) established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the northern hemisphere's vernal equinox.[8] Ecclesiastically, the equinox is reckoned to be on 21 March (even though the equinox occurs, astronomically speaking, on 20 March in most years), and the "Full Moon" is not necessarily the astronomically correct date. The date of Easter therefore varies between 22 March and 25 April. Eastern Christianity bases its calculations on the Julian calendar whose 21 March corresponds, during the 21st century, to 3 April in the Gregorian calendar, in which the celebration of Easter therefore varies between 4 April and 8 May. The Orthodox tradition sets by the spring full moon and is always the sunday post passover. The western catholics use only the full moon as the the timing resulting in the difference. periodically Easter does line up together. |

To me its better to err of the side of caution, especially in light of the so-called FLY-0VER a few days ago in NYC by what appeared to be a beleagured Airforce-1. So,i guess we'll see soon, tomorrow is Beltane anywho, maybe something is forthcoming.............. |

Hallelujah! Alethos Anesti! 8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. 9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. 10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Fertility rites and all that. Nothing changed just because Catholicism/Christianity hijacked the date. True followers of Christ would know better than to focus remembrance of the most important event in the history of man to just one day, merely because some council saw fit. Come away from the deception of "holidays". |
