It`s that time of year when the right conditions come together across the mid west for super cells...They are predicting very strong storms tonight and saturday night..especially here in SC Kansas with Tor Con levels at 7 for Saturday...The cells could hold together till late at night which even makes this more dangerous..Be smart--have a plan...

[link to www.weather.com]

The TOR:CON values range from 0 to 10. A value of 4 means that there is about a 40% chance of a tornado within 50 miles of a location in the specified area of severe thunderstorm activity. This also means that there is a 60% chance that a tornado will NOT occur

Saturday April 14
IA northwest - 4
IA southwest - 4 to 5
IA rest - 3 to 4
IL northwest - 3
KS south-central - 7
KS rest of central, east - 5 to 6
MN southwest - 4
MN southeast - 3
MO north - 4
NE southeast - 5
NE northeast - 4 to 5
OK northwest, north-central - 7
OK southwest - 5
SD southeast - 4
TX east panhandle - 5
WI southwest -3
Other areas - less than 2

Saturday Night April 14
IA west - 5
KS south-central, east - 6
OK north, central, west - 6
MN southwest - 5
MO northwest - 4
NE east - 5
TX north-central - 5

Check the map...

[link to www.spc.noaa.gov]

THESE FACTORS
COMBINED WITH SFC DEWPOINTS IN THE LOWER TO MID 60S F AND VERY
FAVORABLE LOW-LEVEL SHEAR PROFILES SHOULD PRODUCE AND ENVIRONMENT
FAVORABLE FOR A TORNADO OUTBREAK. AFTER COLLABORATION WITH WFOS
WICHITA...NORMAN...TOPEKA...TULSA AND DODGE CITY...A HIGH RISK WILL
BE ISSUED DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR A HIGH-END LIFE THREATENING EVENT
ACROSS THE SRN AND CNTRL PLAINS.

NOAA has upgraded their map to include Nebraska and wetsern Iowa

our weatherman said they will be using more intense wording in their warnings..
testing first, which they are trying to prevent loss of life...
Hence the LIFE THREATENING EVENT..

not to downplay this warning, just that they are trying new tactics to scare the shit out of people, so they will listen..

anyhow stay safe...

Accuweather also backing up danger signs:

"A life-threatening, large outbreak of tornadoes is forecast to unfold across the central and southern Plains this weekend.

According to AccuWeather.com Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams, "The risk is about as high as it gets."

Oklahoma City and Wichita lie in the heart of the tornado threat area that extends from near Wichita Falls, Texas, to near Omaha, Neb., late Saturday afternoon through Saturday night." [link to www.accuweather.com]

Looks like this will be one of those nights with lots of action.

Might want to park all vehicles under cover to protect from predicted baseball size hail!

Will appreciate any updates from folks impacted in these areas

A little blurb in OK, some activity in CA and in IL but that's it. Everywhere else looks sleepy. They expect these supercells to just spawn out of nothing?

I'll have the camera ready..I`ll chase them during the day but at night I`ll be at home..When we built our house I built a nice shelter under the front porch..14 inches of concrete and rebar with 10 inch thick walls...Got room for the cat and 5 chihuahuas too... :) Hopefully everything will stay out in open fields and away from towns...

This is actually very normal for this time of the year. Im not saying this isnt a big deal because peoples lives are at risk but its tornado alley. People who live in tornado alley expect this type of weather.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11270410

No, tornadoes are normal. What's being predicted is not.
