NOAA --->"DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR A HIGH-END LIFE THREATENING EVENT"updated Nebraska and Iowa in high risk also Bump for awareness...things to think about---family, the elderly, pets, water, flashlights, radio, first aid kit, personal valuables....important papers like your old tax returns, investments...everybody should go through and video your house and the contents to help insurance adjusters give you what you deserve...fortunately I have a storm shelter built into my house where I store most of these items...if you do not have a shelter try to store things under the crawl space during bad weather only, but have them located all in one area so it`s easy to move them to a safer location quickly... NOAA --->"DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR A HIGH-END LIFE THREATENING EVENT"updated Nebraska and Iowa in high risk also It is simply a way of predicting the odds of a tornado in your area..you can laugh all you want till ya have a F5 breathing down your neck...I`ve never heard any rude comments from meteorologists about the WC`s system...The deal is the ingredients are there and all meteorologists ARE AGREEING on this. Check any of your weather sources and you`ll see they are all predicting very strong storms..strong southerly winds all night last night and today helps add to the system. I`ve lived here all my life and have seen several tornadoes..chased many of them..I`ve helped clean up after them also and have seen the devastation they leave behind...if you don`t have something positive to add the STFU Last Edited by <<LOOK`n thru YOU>> on 04/13/2012 10:02 AM |

NOAA --->"DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR A HIGH-END LIFE THREATENING EVENT"updated Nebraska and Iowa in high risk also Tulsa here I wish we had a tornado shelter or safe room! We have a rain water runoff field with a huge concrete drainage (pipe)? I don't know what it is called that runs in a field in the middle of our sub-division. But I figure if there is one of these big tornadoes(F4 F5) we would go get in that since it is underground. You can almost stand up in it, it is that big. We usually get in the guest bathroom ,in the tub, which is right in the middle of our house. But these huge super tornadoes don't even leave the concrete under the house sometimes! They're scary! Thank you for the info! Stay safe Kansas |

I know a lot of time the weatherman gets a little over dramatic but they all seem to be in agreement with this system...expect the worst and hope for the best..There isn`t much we can do about it except be prepared and aware..Keep your attention to this system later at night too. I`m reading a lot about it stating that the super cells will have the fuel to go all night. Them night time twisters are killers... |

Im not saying this isnt a big deal because peoples lives are at risk but its tornado alley. People who live in tornado alley expect this type of weather. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11270410 Yup we sure do...I just really wonder how many people are actually prepared though...Most people don`t think it can happen to them. I know I have had two close calls in my life time and one was a F5...and yet I think it is pretty easy to get out of a tornadoes path(except at night) I don`t think many people are really prepared as well as they could be..especially with things that can`t be replaced like family photos, important paperwork, jewelry etc...Most people are only concerned about living through a tornado which is of course the most important thing no doubt but what about Grandma and Grandpa...and other family members...Kids at school or other activities...Just things to think about... My Dad tells me stories once in a great while of the Udall tornado back years ago....If my memory serves me correctly it was a F4...destroyed the whole town...Dad said they had three trucks for bodies---one for pieces, one for identifiable bodies and one for whole bodies...stories of a 12 or 13 year old boy wrapped around a small tree from his rib cage down...what was wrapped around the tree was less than 6 inches in diameter and was like jelly...Another story of him dragging legs over to the truck...scarred him pretty bad...This is the time of year we get the big F4`s and F5`s due to the warmer temps and colder northern air clashing..it`s always good to raise people`s awareness. |

SPC issues rare “High Risk” two days out 13 April 2012 High risk outlooks from the Storm prediction Center are rare, but the issuance of one two days out is extremely rare and this evening SPC did just that. The advancements in forecasting over the last 15 years have been amazing and high risk outlooks are bad news for those covered by them. They mean a major outbreak of deadly tornadoes is very possible. Those of you from Oklahoma City to Wichita, and into Central Kansas, should be VERY weather alert Saturday. So should those in the moderate risk area. One way of measuring the instability and wind shear is called the STP or Signficant Tornado Parameter. This image is from a numerical weather model showing a very high STP value for Saturday afternoon over Oklahoma and Kansas. Image from Earl Barker's Model Page. There are two main ingredients for major tornado outbreaks.... ReadMore: [link to blogs.agu.org] |

ReadMore: [link to blogs.agu.org] Thanks Brutha....I live within 15 miles of Wichita and so does most of my family...we are all weather junkies this time of year but on the more serious side we have a great respect for it too...I saw a little ol F2 rope tornado roll a 65" mustang up into a round ball one time..same guy that owned the mustang lost his whole house..ripped clear off the foundation..sub floor too. They were under the stairs and watched the pool table get picked up on it`s side and slide over against the wall..missed my dad`s house by a quarter mile..serious stuff...The warnings about night time tornadoes is what I don`t like...people get out chasing these things by the 100`s, almost out of control actually..very dangerous stuff Last Edited by <<LOOK`n thru YOU>> on 04/13/2012 01:00 PM |
