I personally have been planning my retirement without SS or any government assistance. If it is there by the time I retire then I look at it as a bonus.

I, too, have planned my retirement for years. I must admit that I did not always make the best choices...One decision I made was to place money in traditional IRA's. Since the traditional IRA is taxed at the time it is withdrawn for use, it is a sure fire way to get burned. I predict that by the time this money is taxed, I will pay a rate of at least 50%. Take away 1/2 of mine through taxes, and give it to those who did not prepare...

Depends. If you are in your 30s you will never see a dime of it.
