Actually the title does not imply that. The title is pretty clear. We have the highest prison population in the known world. We are privatizing prisons so PROFITS can be made, innocent or guilty. The saying goes "you don't put on a condom unless your gonna fuck!" You don't privatize prisons unless you plan on putting people in them. There is no arguing or debating the numbers or statistics. oh noes I got caughted! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11769536 United States 04/04/2012 04:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yep, nothing more corrupt and disgusting than turning the criminal justice/legal system into a FOR-PROFIT industry/business. I remember when I was a kid and it was only the real criminals who went to jail. Now, even minor traffic offenders go to jail, get booked in and stay overnight, untill they can post bail or get a court date. I did 2 months in state jail over traffic violations and misdemeaners. Because I couldnt come up with the 5 grand in fines. I chose to do community service because I didnt have the money at the time. HOWEVER, it would have taken almost 2 years to pay off the debt working community service. I was late showing up 1 weekend and my community service went to a bench warrant. |

They pass stupid laws for stupid reasons and give maximum length sentences. Yes, they do it on purpose. How about decriminalizing drugs and let any past offenders out of prison? that would be a good start. Taking drugs is a health problem, not a police problem. Remove the profit from drugs and you remove the gangs. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4934354 Many of them deserve a long-ago execution. A bit extreme but I hear ya'! Have you ever been called for jury duty? 9 out of 10 cases are DUI related. Look in the newspaper's crime section. Mostly DUI. It's the frequency of this "crime" that keeps your govt fed. There is nothing that comes close to the number of DUI violations in the police blotter. That's $500 - $1000 a pop in bail alone. |
