It is ONLY a question of The Will.

Your Will.

And you get it Your Way.

Your Will will be done.

Can't you understand fellowship, friendship, love and respect?

Do you refuse to see that?

God doesn't need us.

So who's benefit could it be for?

If you are Willing...

Re: Simple straight forward question. Would a loving supreme being desire that you worship and pray to him/her?
Would loving parents desire that their children love them and enter into petitioning them for those things that they desire?

Praying is conversing with our Lord, telling Him what hurts and asking for the things we desire and for the life we would like to have. For ourselves, for others who Are important in our lives.

Why do you have a problem with this?

God would see it as a wholesome response to His mercy on us.

Sorry, I have to reply to this one again. This is a perfect example of the control that I am referring to. Can't you see how lost people can become?

Most minds haven't experienced the necessary revolution from dogma to see the soul. Fractal by nature, simplistic in thought, its right there an it is never seen
“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan

Re: Simple straight forward question. Would a loving supreme being desire that you worship and pray to him/her?
Simply taking responsibility for ourselves and the consequences of our actions is a very good place to start. Realising that being angry or upset makes you feel bad is another step; you learn to let go of fear, because fear is the underlying emotion. Just these two changes to your mode of thinking will liberate you more than you can imagine. There's no need for religion or "authority" to get to that understanding.

Like the OP, I'm knocking on in years a bit, and I agree with him. The whole God / Jesus / Religion thing is something I've revisited again and again over the years, trying to see what others see in it all. To me, it is as nutritious as dust and sand.

This does not disqualify me from having a deep sense of compassion, love, understanding and forgiveness for others - far from it. Quite the opposite, I would say.

Would a loving God who knows everything place the tree of knowledge in the garden when he knew Adam and Eve would eat of it and thus damn millions, billions or trillions to hell for all eternity when he could have simply not placed the tree there in the garden thus keeping everyone safe?

Apparently, after all, he is all-powerful.

So you would prefer to have no choice and no free will but to be forced to love God?

How could that forced love be real?

Stepford Wives mean anything to you?

Would you imprison a woman and command her to love you and then expect her to really love you?

Love can only be real if you have the option not to

See, this is why you're dumb. Compassion to do what is best for another human being, whether they believe it's best for them or not, is admirable and honorable.

If your child wants to spend their time getting drunk and driving around with their friends even though they believe it's okay, are you going to let them? Hey, let them fuck up! After all, choice is soooooo much more important then doing what's best.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You're so brainwashed with fundamental thinking you can't even see how application of these ideas in the real world fall flat on their face.

You serve a god that torments people for all eternity for their beliefs! Do you not see that?! How is this any different from Hitler, or Stalin, or Mao? At least the torment they placed on their victims wasn't eternal.

You call yourself compassionate and loving but would be fine with you local police department taking a good person and torturing them, not because they're a criminal, but because of an idea or a lack of an idea in their head. This person could very be a stand-up citizen of the community, admired and loved and respected. But, he believed a certain thing, and that thing means torture and separation from his loved ones for the rest of his life. You'd probably say you'd never sign off on this kind of treatment, but that would make you a liar and a hypocrite... After all, you serve a God that would do that very same thing.

Listen folks. The only person you have to convince of your views on this reality is you. We can come here and discuss our ideas, but no one has to agree with our views. each person must follow their own path through this labyrinth we call life.

Be respectful of others views. For anyone to be forced to believe what you believe is just another form of control.

No need for disrespectful arguing.

Regardless, hell isn't biblical and neither is freewill... You have a lot of catching up to do if you get those things from the Bible.

Re: Simple straight forward question. Would a loving supreme being desire that you worship and pray to him/her?
That question is not an attack. I honestly can't see how an advanced deity would ask that of anyone. Worship is just another form of slavery. Can't Christians see that?

I think if you stopped and considered this question it would trouble you. That is why many never question worship.

It doesn't matter what I think. Ask yourself if the concept of worship of another is right.

You decide.
 Quoting: 1123581321

That is a great question and my answer is no. No real Creator God/dess would demand worship from its creations. That is so ego centered and childish. However, if one considers prayer not as worship but as connection to the spiritual source of life, than that makes sense to me. That's how I would view it - connection, discussion - just as I would with a parent or loved one. I don't worship them, but I try to stay at least somewhat connected.
 Quoting: mehitable

That was a lovely and respectful reply. Thank you. And I agree completely. When I speak to my God, I go within and listen to my heart. It is not a master to slave arrangement.

My view of God is to imagine all life in the universe as a drop of water in the ocean of God. So, by this understanding, we are all an equal or fractal piece of God. All life in the universe and beyond are all brothers and sisters. We are also all equal pieces of God! In other words a part of God. Not lower than God, but a part of God. We are all Gods in a sense.

I agree, just arguing the point.

Would further put the argument thusly:

If any believe that they are somehow not a part of your God, then your God is a finite being.

It may make sense then for a finite being to desire worship.

I, however, believe God is infinite. Therefore in my view, I must part of God.

There may be a BIG difference between the god put forth in the major religions and GOD.

Re: Simple straight forward question. Would a loving supreme being desire that you worship and pray to him/her?
In other words, it is impossible for anything to lie outside of infinity.

Infinity is an all-encompassing concept, by definition
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13514333

I personally believe there is both, but all living being, beings, plants, planets are infinite because they are a piece or a fractal of the One True Creator.

Just my view.

Peace

I agree, just arguing the point.

Would further put the argument thusly:

If any believe that they are somehow not a part of your God, then your God is a finite being.

It may make sense then for a finite being to desire worship.

I, however, believe God is infinite. Therefore in my view, I must part of God.

There may be a BIG difference between the god put forth in the major religions and GOD.

Therefore what?

Good and evil don't matter?

You are not accountable for you?

What?

Nothing matters?

What?

This is the only reasonable view to take, if one believes that God is infinite.
God cannot be infinite if you are not inside and part of God.
Infinite = EVERYTHING
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13514333

Yes. That's exactly right. Thank you.

Good and evil don't matter?

What?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4934354

That conclusion does not follow logically as a conclusion. Where do you make a connection?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13514333

Then give me your logical conclusion.

What is your point?

God is infinite, therefore we are all a part of God. That's all I have said

Re: Simple straight forward question. Would a loving supreme being desire that you worship and pray to him/her?
...

Mr. Self-Righteous Smart Guy,

Again,

"So you would prefer to have no choice and no free will but to be forced to love God?"
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4934354

You would prefer that people make that wrong choice that puts them in flames forever. OBVIOUSLY, they don't believe this choice would really do that to them or else they wouldn't believe it because after all, who wants to bet set on fire forever? Uhh nobody.

Regardless, hell isn't biblical and neither is freewill... You have a lot of catching up to do if you get those things from the Bible.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1038231

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I suck... of course... fine.

Can you answer the question yet? Are you afraid of the question or something?

Would you prefer that you were forced to believe in God?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4934354

Who wouldn't? If being forced meant an eternity of bliss vs not being forced means an eternity of torture.

Your question is so obvious it didn't really deserve an answer. But apparently you weren't unaware of the answer... So, there it is.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1038231

Then why don't you?
