Light Flash over San Antonio in mid February??
I recently observed an intense, short lived flash of light which appeared to be over the medical center or perhaps toward Port SA. My view was facing Southwest as I observed it from the NW Military and 1604 area. I do not remember the exact time but I know it occurred between 8:00pm and 10:00pm. The sky was pretty clear and it was cool out. I witnessed it from an apartment complex which sits on a hill so my horizon view was void of any trees or buildings.

It was a relatively large flash; perhaps a half mile or slightly more in width and a few hundred feet high. It appeared electrical in nature. I liken it to a transformer exploding which was my logical and immediate guess. However, this light seemed to grow slightly in scale, shrink a bit then expand again just before going out. I saw the entire flash and it lasted about two seconds. The light was mostly white methinks. There was no sound that I could associate to the flash and it seemed much to large for a transformer explosion or accident.

I never heard anything about and interestingly enough, this is not the first time I've seen a light flash of this nature behave like this in San Antonio.

My first time was over a year ago facing toward the airport from the Bitters and Huebner area. This flash was a little harder to see due to trees but it was just as bright and lasted just as long.

I ran across this website as I searched for answers on the Internet. A discussion with my fiancé tonight prompted me to finally put some effort into finding out what this light is.

My question is, are there others that have seen this light and what in the world is it?

Thank you.

Correction....it appeared north and west of the medical center like Bandera Road or maybe even further west than that.

Been seeing unexplained flashes at our cabin ....see my post "bright flashes of light in woods". I don't know what it is but found numerous others on web reporting same thing all over the country.....looks like very bright camera flash.

peaceMy husband and I have seen them! We live in North Carolina, though. We sit outside in the evenings and we have noticed it happen several times. The light appears, flares, and fades. My husband said "heat lightning" but we've figured out it's not that.
Once, the light was noticeable in some clouds, the moon was directly visible above us, but this light behind the clouds was almost as bright as the moon. It shone for a couple of hours and eventually grew dimmer until it went out.
