People don't decide to get addicted to drugs, it sneaks up on you...if you play around with opiates and narcotics , you will become addicted...
 Quoting: BRIEF

This is very true.

I know if I break my arm or get injured and the doctor prescribes me an opiate pain killer now, it would be like jumping off a cliff again and I run the risk of starting all over with my addiction.

Now I have to TELL doctors not to give me any, whereas before, I wanted nothing but.

BullShit. You have no friends. You mean that he's an acquaintance.

I have lots of friends, but they are all smarter than you...you couldn't qualify if your life depended on it.

Some people can handle drugs without it becoming a problem, others cannot. Prohibition of drugs only makes drug use more dangerous, not less.

What opiates and narcotics to to brain chemistry is not a willpower issue, it's much more powerful than that. Keep fooling yourself and making excuses and you will end up in addiction...

Re: Numb In America: What Drugs Did To Me
I stopped smokng pot almost 2 months ago (with only 1 relapse).

I have also cut my psych meds for depression and anxiety in 1/2.

I am 2 weeks into "cold turkey" getting off of Lexapro (for depression).

I plan on getting off everything except the ADHD pills and, if I need them, the anti-anxiety pills that are not addictive, but provide immediate relief if I need them.

I am taking control of my life.

I am not out of the woods, by any means, but I am no longer laying in bed for the entire evening after work, letting the house go to hell and the kids fend for themselves.

I am making dinners now, washing the dishes, keeping the kids from fighting over whos turn it is to use the computer, etc.

I have hope, after 3 years of hell (and 2 jobs I could not handle because I couldn't handle anything beyond just getting by).

1) sacrificing liberty for safety ensures you will get neither. prohibition doesn't work, and criminlization certainly is a big money pit

2) legalization = states rights issue. Leave the FEDS out of it!!!!!!!!!

It was to me too, until I became physically dependent on it and nearly died from withdrawal.

The jail I was at finally took me to the ER after not being able to eat for a week.

The doctor yelled at the sheriff after he brought me in because he said judging by my blood tests & electrolyte levels, I would have died within the next 24 hours.

Re: Numb In America: What Drugs Did To Me
I became addicted to pain killers at the age of 18 after numerous shoulder surgeries from playing high school football.

Life was normal before this. I had ambitions and goals. Everything was going great for me.

Soon after, I became addicted to heroin and cocaine. I battled this for a few years as it sucked away all of my life force. Nothing else mattered to me but the feeling of being numb.

It took everything from me.

I overdosed on cocaine at the age of 20 after losing my mom to cancer. My dad died while I was in jail of a heart attack.

I relapsed after only one month of being out of jail.

Down to nothing, it took a miracle for me to seek help. My girlfriend lied to me and told me she was pregnant with my child in hopes I would change.

I turned myself in, and have been in rehab ever since.

I've been clean for 2 and 1/2 years now and have come to some amazing realisations.

What is the purpose for drugs in America? Is it so formerly successful people like me can be led astray?

I am deeply upset that the US allows Afghanistan to produce 90% of the world's heroin supply.

Any thoughts on the war on drugs? It seems like a huge profit game for our government.

I hate to say that I agree with this, but it's real.
If you allowed people a choice to choose, and they saw the negative effects of such a choice --- my bet is that less people would op to even trying them out.

Some People can handle "Drugs", yes no doubt
but in my work i never met one
who can handle "Opiates and Opioide" in a long term!

@ Op,
what kind of Rehab?

Do you know that that the People in India,
which produce together with Tasmania,
the majority of the pharmaceutical Opiates
have not enough Opiates for their own People
because they need to sale everything to the US?

In fact many of the Cancer Patients in India
are crying in Agony until they get some Morphines
from Europe or USA but they are highly Expensive
and not many People can pay for it!

Interesting how the Taliban eradicated Poppy production only to see the US topple the Taliban and send Poppy production through the roof. In fact, the US had a chance to napalm the poppy fields and chose not to. Why? Condy Rice said it would collapse the Pakistan economy. You can't make this shit up.
