Studying it is considered important for building a scenario of natural climate change in centuries to come.

Seasonal drilling work began this year on January 2. Russian specialists working at the Vostok station in Antarctica discovered the lake with assistance from British colleagues in 1996. The drilling began in the 1970s, before the lake’s existence had been detected.

So cool that they were drilling for 30 years, and reached the Lake exactly in 2012, the end of the "Mayan doom".

I have been googling to find more info and so far only 2 reports have hit the news and they are both Russian...

and I agree with the above poster this lacks to little info to start dismissing it as completed and doom off
