There's already plenty of booze if one wants to "be stoned". I would argue that cannabis freedom will lead to greater societal productivity due to health benefits and economic stimulus.

The federal government: DOJ, ATF, Police and Prison Gaurd Lobby, even the Border Patrol use the illegalization as an issue to keep themselves employed! with out illegalization, there would be no need for new and additional hiring, pay increases, over time, even new prisons. Come to think of it even some lawyers and addiction counsellers will have to find new work. Just to much money is being made fleecing the US government and people to allow M to become legalized. I bet even the alcohol and tobacco makers/Lobby would want that. The Congress takes in too much money from these groups to allow legalization to take place. Even if Missouri votes it in, the Feds will nullify the measure!

If you were growing it you could do many things including...
-produce your own medicine (shuts down medical industry)
-produce your own food (healthier than the crap you eat now)
-produce your own fuel/energy (ends the stranglehold that oil companies have on us)

It would transform consumers into producers, They don't want this because consumers are dependent.

So instead of california being a loner and missing the passage with a 43% positive for legalization, two years later we have five states voting on it already nine months before the election.

Initial polling in washington and california is positive (70+% in california, 50+% in washington)

every state should vote on it, SOMEWHERE it will pass and that will be the first step.

The problem will be some of the more conservative states. Here in TN you still can't buy liquor in some counties.

Even one state (out of the five that will most likely be voting) would be huge, but it would take years for it to spread.
