The Show Me Cannabis Initiative: Missouri Citizens Take Matters Into Their Own Hands; Will Legalize Marijuana in 2012 -- as many as 6 states!!!
The ‘Show Me’ state is slated to have a ballot initiative in 2012 providing for the full legalization of marijuana.

Specifically, the ballot language will ask:

Shall Missouri law be amended to:
• legalize cannabis (commonly known as marijuana) for individuals 21 years or older;
• make medical cannabis available to individuals with a physician's recommendation including those under 21 with parental or legal guardian consent and physician supervision;
• create licensing processes for operation of cannabis establishments;
• release individuals incarcerated or on probation or parole for non-violent, cannabis-only offenses which would no longer be illegal and expunge all records related to such offenses; and
• allow the legislature to enact a tax on the retail sale of dried cannabis up to $100 per pound?

The petition drive is underway. 150,000 signatures (MO registered voters) are needed by May 6th. To find a location to sign the petition: [link to show-mecannabis.com]

If you live in MO, be sure to sign the petition!

The exact bill can be found at: [link to www.sos.mo.gov]

Legalization is also likely to be on the 2012 ballot in Colorado, again in California, Oregon, Washington, Michigan and perhaps other states. Let me know and I will add others I may have missed!

I see at least a couple of these passing - when they do, the others will fall like dominoes!

A Missouri campaign to place an initiative to end marijuana prohibition on the November ballot has entered the signature-gathering phase, and petition-toting volunteers across the Show Me state are hunting for registered voters as the campaign looks for funds to help it get over the top. The effort is off to an enthusiastic start.

According to NORML, "The Ballot Measure Would Legalize...

For Personal Use:

- possession for all adults, 21 and older

- personal cultivation (not for resale) in a space up to 10X10 ft (can be larger for patients)

- cultivation for resale with license from the state (includes tax of $100/pound)

- cannabis retail stores with license from the state

For Medical Use:

- doctors and patients shall have full legal rights regarding cannabis as with any other therapy

- grants medical use rights to patients from other states

For Commercial Hemp:

- farmers would be allowed to grow hemp just like any other crop in Missouri

Sounds like a win-win ballot initiative! Go MO cheer

Yes, I agree. But it will be the same kind of laws as exist for alcohol. Even cigarettes are taxed. I can live with that.

I don't smoke pot. But I find nothing wrong with making it legal. If I was from Missouri I'd vote for it.

Those taxes would go to the state, and they'd be needed to fight off the real beast (the feds), who have been doing raids in other states who legalized

To those who protest the proposed tax...

You have to think politically. You will never get any such initiative passed without a tax. The proposed tax is for the fence-sitters. The initiavie proponents can use the proposed tax as a club to hit the undecided over the head.

...bring much needed income into the state...
...to pay for anti-drug efforts for the hard drugs...
...helps pay for the license and enforcement...

I know many of you think that "politics" is a dirty word, not fit for the tender ears of GLP, but politics is simply the art of swaying large groups of people to open their minds and at least think of your proposed changes.

peace

I agree totally - tax is not necessarily a bad thing and would be a big boost for MO. Plus, I do believe one would be able to grow a bit for one's own use, much like we can make elderberry wine from the trees growing on our property without paying any tax.

The signatures are needed by April 6th (I believe the deadline for submission of the petitions to the state is May 6th). If you live in MO, be sure to sign the petition!

3 x 3 meters doesn't sound like much, but oughta go a long way for a skilled grower.

At least it's a start.

Good initiative, oughta happen all over the world!

Most people have been wondering why this hasn't happened for years. Most people figure it's because so many politicians and elite are secretly making huge amounts of money by operating drug-smuggling operations.

Yes - absolutely. I remember thinking, as a teen, that it was only a matter of time. Later, I wondered what the heck was going on. Then, doing a little research and uncovering the phony "war on drugs" explained a lot. I'm curious to see what will happen. As far as I can tell, MO politicians are pretty much on the take. I was amazed to see the SOS agree to put this on the ballot.

Hopefully they get better at growing the stuff while they're at it.

Smoked some of my cousin's while I was visiting last year.. Totally bunk weed. lol Their regular weed was ten times better than the crap they call kind bud.

And people around there treat it like it's crack or something. Uber fiends up there. They should legalize it just to chill that place out.

If MO fully legalises marijuana then I see Oregon, Colorado and Washington doing the same thing, probably as soon as they could..... maybe Montana (only hope).

This may not work simply for that reason..
They don't want to give up taking money from people on parole or in prison.

Hope it does work though1
