However, as I said before....THIS disease was
suggested as a "possible theory" in cats and dogs
way back in 1908. IT NEVER WENT ANYWHERE over the
past 104 years, so I highly doubt if there is any
validity in this current "disease fear mongering."

Re: How Cats Control You with a Parasite - Toxoplasmosis and Its Effects
It's pretty dumb, but the main reason people get sick is because of handling cat poop. It's that simple. A little box is a bizarre practice. Would you as a human crap in a box in some clay pellets and then let it sit and then fish it out and reuse the litter? NO! HECK NO! It's unsanitary.

If you smell poo, you're breathing poo. Microscopic amounts of it.

The cysts of this parasite are passed in fecal matter. If you place the litter box far away or even eliminate it, and using gloves you toss it out, and never get it near your garden, and wash your hands, then duh you won't get sick probably.

In extremely rare circumstances, if someone used poor hygiene and prepared food and you ate what they made, then you might get sick. Chances are through that unless living under these pitiful conditions, that your immune system can probably fight it off.

By the way, a cheap test for immunuglobin E will reveal parasites of all kinds. If you must test, do that first to save money. Then if positive, look for likely candidates.

If you allow their crap to stay in the litter box, then their paws will have crap on them, right? Why would you allow that? Would you allow a baby to crap in a box and then leave the crap and wade through it again a second time?

It's mind boggling.

By the way, the norovirus that going around in epidemic levels is caused by the same vector of people going to the bathroom, not washing their hands or not washing well, then preparing food and making themselves plus their families sick.

Re: How Cats Control You with a Parasite - Toxoplasmosis and Its Effects
For quite awhile now, I've found it very odd that human beings want to live in the same dwelling as their animals. Wasn't it a HUGE deal when we humans finally had sufficient economic freedom to live in our OWN dwelling and have the animals outside, in the barn? Now everyone and their damn brother wants dirty, disease-ridden animals living in their houses with them!

Oh sure, most people will tell me I'm crazy, that dogs and cats are SPECIAL, since they're DOMESTICATED and all that shit. Well guess what?? This thread proves I'm right! No animals for me in my fucking house, thanks very much.

Re: How Cats Control You with a Parasite - Toxoplasmosis and Its Effects
Ministry of Propaganda, Bullshit. I love cats all my life and this is just plain ol BS.

bsflag

Lately, I've been having submandibular lymph node swelling, headaches, and body aches, accompanied by the strong urge to acquire a pet cat.

Where am I going with this?

Toxoplasmosis.

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii. The parasite infects most genera of warm-blooded animals, including humans, but the primary host is the felid (cat) family. Up to one third of the world's human population is estimated to carry a Toxoplasma infection.
 Quoting: [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Cervical lymph nodes are lymph nodes found in the neck.

Level I: Submental and submandibular nodes
 Quoting: [link to en.wikipedia.org]

The following can cause the submental lymph nodes to become swollen:
. . .
Toxoplasmosis
an infection that is caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. Symptoms include headache, swollen lymph glands, mild fever, muscle pain, and sore throat.
 Quoting: [link to www.thelymphnodes.com]

This is a case of a 13-year-old boy suffering from acquired toxoplasmosis, in which submandibular lymphadenopathy was the only clinical sign of the disease.
 Quoting: [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

. . .

The toxoplasma gondii parasites need vitamin B to live.

. . .

Toxo usually comes back after the first episode. People who have had toxo should keep taking the anti-toxo drugs at a lower, maintenance dose.
 Quoting: [link to www.thebody.com]

Symptoms

You probably won't know if you've contracted toxoplasmosis, although some people may develop toxoplasmosis symptoms similar to those of the flu or mononucleosis, such as:

Body aches
Swollen lymph nodes
Headache
Fever
Fatigue
Occasionally, a sore throat
 Quoting: [link to www.mayoclinic.com]

Recurrent toxoplasmosis

A case of recurrent toxoplasmosis in a previously healthy 34-year-old woman is reported. Although she was treated 3 times with co-trimoxazole, which in our experience has been efficient in the treatment of toxoplasmosis, and responded to treatment clinically and serologically, she relapsed with clinical symptoms . . .
 Quoting: [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

. . .
*tissue cysts, which persist for the lifespan of the secondary host.
. . .
 Quoting: [link to emedicine.medscape.com]

*Fun fact: Sometimes when I pet a cat then touch my face, a small round spot flares up on my lip out of nowhere, and burns for about 5-10 minutes, then goes completely back to normal. Simple allergic reaction? Suuure it is. More like a fucking parasite living in my lip, trying to get out and pay homage to its god.*

The feral or domesticated feline is this organism's preferred host, since it can only reproduce in cats.

. . .

When a healthy individual becomes infected with the parasite, his or her immune system neutralizes the threat and the parasite falls dormant. The inactive organism remains present in the body for life, creating increased immunity in the event of future exposure.
 Quoting: [link to www.wisegeek.com]

In particular, humans with latent infections of the common protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii appear to experience a variety of long-term personality changes. For instance, in infected women, intelligence, superego strength (rule-conscious, dutiful, conscientious, conforming, moralistic, staid and rule-bound) and affectothymia (warm, outgoing, attentive to others, kindly, easy-going, participating and likes people) are higher, while infected men have lower intelligence, superego strength and novelty-seeking (low novelty-seeking indicates rigid, loyal, stoic, slow-tempered and frugal personalities); both infected men and women have higher levels of guilt-proneness (they tend to be more apprehensive, self-doubting, worried, guilt prone, insecure, worrying and self-blaming.
 Quoting: [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

NOW FOR THE KICKER...

A link between culture and T. gondii hypothetically results from a behavioural manipulation that the parasite uses to increase its transmission to the next host in the life cycle: a cat.
 Quoting: [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

THIS BASICALLY MEANS THAT THE PARASITE MIND CONTROLS YOU TO WANT A CAT.

To feel the NEED, to have a LONGING, to have a CAT.

WTF?!?!?!?

I wouldn't believe this, if I hadn't realized it was HAPPENING TO ME.

Further interesting info:

Some cases of acute toxoplasmosis in adults are associated with psychiatric symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations. A review of 114 cases of acquired toxoplasmosis noted that “psychiatric disturbances were very frequent” in 24 of the case-patients (10). Case reports describe a 22-year-old woman who exhibited paranoid and bizarre delusions (“she said she had no veins in her arms and legs”), disorganized speech, and flattened affect; a 32-year-old woman who had auditory and visual hallucinations; and a 34-year-old woman who experienced auditory hallucinations and a thought disorder (11). Schizophrenia was first diagnosed in all three patients, but later neurologic symptoms developed, which led to the correct diagnosis of Toxoplasma encephalitis.
 Quoting: [link to wwwnc.cdc.gov]

Now this opens a whole other can of worms, if you have unique theories/ideas about schizophrenia like I do.

. . .
some individuals with adult toxoplasmosis develop psychotic symptoms similar to those of schizophrenia
. . .
epidemiologically, there are many similarities between toxoplasmosis and schizophrenia
 Quoting: [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

After proliferation of tachyzoites in various organs during the acute stage, the parasite forms cysts preferentially in the brain and establishes a chronic infection, which is a balance between host immunity and the parasite's evasion of the immune response. A variety of brain cells, including astrocytes and neurons, can be infected.
. . .

A possible outcome of congenital infections is severe neurological and ophthalmological disease. The outcome of the other 2 modes of infection is usually a chronic, latent infection that persists for life. This latent infection has been assumed, until recently, to be clinically asymptomatic; as indicated in the accompanying articles, this assumption is being reconsidered.
. . .

The outcome of T. gondii infection is strongly influenced by both parasite and host determinants.
 Quoting: [link to schizophreniabulletin.oxfordjournals.org]

But because T. gondii can reproduce only in felines, it wants its host to be eaten by cats, not by just any carnivore. And because cats hunt live prey and do not eat carrion, T. gondii must not immediately kill its temporary host.
 Quoting: [link to www.scientificamerican.com]

damned

To Summarize:
Toxoplasmosis is a life-long parasitical infection. Symptoms can reoccur throughout the life of the host and have physical and psychological effects. And who knows what the fuck else.

A pertient question:
What the fuck is REALLY up with cats?? Did the Egyptians (worshipped cats) know something we clearly haven't fully caught onto yet? Is anyone else freaked out and slightly disturbed right now?

Thoughts?

book

Here's a video for ya... pay special attention to 5:15, where the lady says that sometimes they come out of the cysts in your brain, and 'wiggle around for a bit' (maybe that strange time when you get a longing to have a cat?) and then go back into the cysts.

This kindof psuedo-medical science fantasy that
you are playing with on this thread will bring
you some really HEAVY KARMA. I am sure that first
off--you hate cats...that is a NO-BRAINER.

But when you present such unproven and biased
material you are setting people up who are gullible
to distrust their own knowledge--and it may even
be directly responsible for people dumping their
animals. That means suffering and death for
sentient beings which is in YOUR LAP for presenting
such a thread. This is FALSE INFORMATION based
on BIG PHARMA'S DRIVE TO SELL MORE DRUGS AND
UNNECESSARY MEDICAL TREATMENTS.

Did you know that they INVENTED the disorder
"Attention Deficit Disorder" to be able to sell
the drug Ritalin? Ritalin was originally a
cat tranquilizer which they didn't have a big
enough sales base with vetinary medicine--so
they created the whole A.D.D. disorder to
SELL MORE DRUGS....and it worked big time!
You guys are playing right into the hands of
BIG PHARMA when you help them pass along lies
and "newly discovered parasite/illnesses" to
sell you their SNAKE OIL.

Please STOP PRESENTING THIS SICK PHARMA B.S.
and leave pet owners alone! You are being
TOTALLY DUPPED by this "cat disease"--it
is NOT REAL and aims at hypochondriacs who
need a NEW HOOK FOR THEIR PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS.
Look at your environment...your consumption
of asparatame in your diet drinks--diet sugar
replacements--color additives...your dependence
on alcohol etc. etc. for your SYMPTOMS and
leave animals out of your EQUATION.
GIVE IT UP!!
Cheers!

Re: How Cats Control You with a Parasite - Toxoplasmosis and Its Effects
Ah, kitties and their parasite.

I do wonder if it truly has the capabilities to alter behavior of human hosts, causing them to get more cats so they'll spread the parasite.

My mother, my father, me, and my sister have ended up each owning cat(s) during all points in our lives. Usually several. None of us is ever without a cat.

My mother and father feed the local outdoor kitties who come by the yard, and I used to do the same (until a few days ago, when a coyote killed the two that came by every day and likely killed every other cat in my neighborhood because they've all disappeared within a week of the first kill...dammit. :(). My sister isn't as obsessed with cats, and although she does have one right now she doesn't show it much attention and focuses on her dog.

So anyway, cat seeking behavior has manifested in me, my mother, and my father independently, beginning with one cat decades ago and peaking at one point with six cats in one house and many neighborhood cats coming by regularly to be fed and pet and scritched.

Our respective desires to own, make contact with, feed, and take care of cats has certainly increased over the years. It does seem that if there's a cat in one of our neighborhoods, we'll end up coming into contact with it sooner or later, feeding it, petting it, and otherwise encouraging more contact. None of us used to do this...

Personally I believe it's because cats are just so cute and nice and sweet, and the more you're around them the more you realize this (I type this with a kitteh sitting a foot away). But I recognize that if I was a parasite and wanted my hosts to contact as many cats as possible, I would try to manifest those exact emotions in my host. I realize parasite influence may have something to do with it.

I'm not aware of any lymph node swelling, headaches, or body aches for any of us though. But my parents got their first cat well before I was born, and I've been in contact with cats for my whole life and I'm sure if I did have such symptoms I'd just blow it off as a flu or something.

If my love for my cats is Toxo cooking my brain - then so be it. I am quite happy adoring these little balls of furry love. And am not ashamed of feeling that way at all.

Cats can and do bond with a human sometimes. You become "their" person. It's a great honor. You're like another cat in their eyes, although they pity your inability to hunt and catch bugs and such. But they love you enough to do those things and bring you their food if they think you're hungry. (How many humans would do such a thing for you? Damned few sadly enough!)

Cats are often more human than many 'humans' I've met. Don't know how or why. But it is true. I'm just glad to be able to take care of them and love them. Children grow up and move on with their own lives. Hell, they insist on doing so. But cats will happily be with you all of your days or theirs - and have no wish to change that if they're loved and treated well.

Thread: Is there ONE thing that makes us all ill - ONE culprit (toxoplasma)? … and does it hold the cure in itself ?….please engage and discuss

Toxoplasma Gondii - the main culprit ?
...work in progress, please share, analyse and discuss

Journal of Pathogens, Vol. 2013:
"Toxoplasma gondii is not only implicated in schizophrenia and related disorders, but also in Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease, cancer, cardiac myopathies, and autoimmune disorders”.

Overview (that could not have been made without GLP crowdsourcing!) :

Toxoplasma Gondii is all over.
30-80 % infection rate, i.e a majority of the worlds population is infected
Affects +3000 genes in a human being
Connects to almost all “large” health issues - both physically and psychologically
Connects to a number of societal issues
Is extremely old and very sophisticated

Connects to….
Cancers, Diabetes, Lupus, MS, Autoimmune conditions, Cardiac conditions, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Depression, OCD, ADHD, Parkinsons, Alzheimer's and so forth.
Also connects to “perception of time”, “human error” and cognitive dissonance.

TG is extremely intelligent

TG subtly affects the psychology of an infected person…… this is extremely important!
Reduces interest for novelty, i.e it reduces Curiosity and promotes fear - fear is poison to curiosity
Promotes aggressiveness in males and conformity in females
Controls synthesis of Dopamine - the key to the human psyche

Links to Cancer II
Interesting results from Chinese scientists:
Prevalence of T. gondii infection in cancer patients ranged from 24% [18] to 79% [19]. Prevalence of T. gondii infection varied with different cancers. Rectal cancer and nasopharyngeal carcinoma sufferers in Changchun city had the highest infection, with prevalence of 63.6% and 46.2%, respectively [18]. However, T. gondii infections in patients with breast cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and gastric carcinoma in Henan Province were much higher than with other cancers, with a prevalence of 78.9%, 77.8% and 61.1%, respectively [19].
[link to download.springer.com]

Links to Cancer III
Turkish scientists made these observations:
Investigation of anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies in patients with neoplasia
Anti-T. gondii IgG antibodies were detected in 68 (63.0 %) patients and in 21 (19.4 %) of the controls, which was a statistically significant difference.
We found the seropositivity rates of anti-T. gondii IgG in Hodgkin's lymphoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, leukaemia, multiple myeloma, lung carcinoma, larynx carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and their ratios were as follows: 68.0, 60.0, 66.7, 73.3, 38.5, 50.0, 80.0, 60.0, 80.0 and 63.0 %, respectively.

Affects the human psyche and culture (!!)
“While latent toxoplasmosis is usually benign, the parasite's subtle effect on individual personality appears to alter the aggregate personality at the population level.”
[link to rspb.royalsocietypublishing.org]

Possible angles of attack for curing
Growth can be stopped and or killed by Haloperidol, Pyrimethamine, Artemisinin, lack of Vitamin B, probably THC/CBD, probably Nicotine, Garlic (!) and various herbs….
DMT and Anandamide could be of importance
Melatonin seems to play a crucial role together with the Pineal Gland.

Interesting affiliation with Plasmodium and Artemisinin
[link to books.google.ro]
….it is possible that through learning how to eradicate/control TG we will perhaps find the key to do the same to Plasmodium…...thus solving the problem of MALARIA !
Some interesting science on that subject here:
[link to www.medicalnewstoday.com]
Research led by a team of investigators at the Indiana University School of Medicine has detailed the discovery of a new protein and other proteins it connects with, which they say could lead to the development of new drugs that control toxoplasma gondii - the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis.

The history of TG
Excellent PDF on discovery (100 years ago) etc.
[link to naldc.nal.usda.gov]

….and much, much more
The amount of available data, scientific analysis and facts concerning TG is almost overwhelming.
The overall picture is very clear - and there is a statistical significant reason to believe that TG is the most important mental- and physical healthcare issue of this century.

what is more concerning (i wrote about on a lyme thread) is bartonella. cats from the gulf region tend to carry this and transmit it to one another via fleas....to transmit it to a human requires only a simple scratch or a bite graze or deep bite. i just found out one of the cats who my Mom was taking care of has a very high titer of bartonella. i thought you could only get bartonella from a tick bite (lyme co-infection)....

well...surprise surprise.....i've have the symptoms and am now taking an antibiotic (azithromyocin) to kill bartonella and the kitty will have to take it as well (it is being formulated at bc it is given as a paste / pate like medicine)....and the kitty will need to be recheched in 6 months to ensure it's gone (no titers present i guess).....i guess i will have to be rechecked again, too.

anyway....it's a simple blood test and no other vet mentioned this to me about cats from the gulf region.....i guess seeing the same vet mark levin goes to has it's advantages.

so, don't sweat the toxo stuff bc i don't think it is an alien parasite, but maybe get checked out for bartonella.

be well.

one can get toxo simply from gardening. it's not some kind of exclusive "cat borne" issue.

*sigh*

 Quoting: Mister Obvious

So Mrs. Obvious, do I understand this right:
You KNOW you have the Toxo,
Toxo WANTS a cat
to fuck around and reproduce?

Very well aware of this
you get a small innocent kitten,
you infect it with Toxo,
Toxo is happily fucking inside little kitten,

you happy now?????

Duh.

First by eating raw meat (and I don't mean cat meat ;) ) the chance to get toxoplasmosis is extremely high.
You can even get it by eating salami, although that's unlikely.

You can also get it while digging in flower beds and not washing your hands properly.

You can only get it from cats that go outside, dig in earth, eat mice... because cat's aren't born with it, they have to get infected themselves first.
You can only get toxoplamosis through contact with cat poo... and only when the poo is a few days old.
That is why pregnant woman shouldn't clean the litter box.
Or eat raw meat.

So: YES, if you eat 3 day old cat poo from a stray cat, you can get toxoplasmosis. Otherwise it is more likely to catch it when eating a steak.

Yeah, I grew up with cats, we always had at least 3 cats.
And yeah, I'm still toxoplasmosis negative...

Cats are also responsible for the extinction of over 30% of the species on the planet Earth.
