Anonymous Coward User ID: 64048787 United States 11/01/2014 03:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | in 1980 there were 500 million people in Africa, today there are 1 billion and one hundred million people. If their population doubles again in the next 20 years, I there won't be any wild animals left in Africa. They poison the lions with cyanide and cheetahs, all those animals are competition for grazing land, they attack their herds. can't really judge them though, US has done the same thing to it's animal species and they are not nearly as crowded, mostly out of just greediness. US farms 60,000 square miles for corn just to make ethanol to burn in cars, that is 60,000 miles of wildlife habitat decimated for pure greed. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 64611386 United States 11/01/2014 03:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Great thread. Yes, Africa's population is due to DOUBLE by 2050! That rate of growth is unsustainable. And so much of the African wildlife requires large swaths of land for territory, hunting, migration, search for water sources, etc. If nothing changes, it's a deadly combination for both man and wildlife. Makes you wonder about the (manufactured?) origins of Ebola. Wars, famine, and disease need not be the only means of population control. We are now advanced enough as a species to control population growth via PREVENTIVE measures, rather than reactionary ones. The biggest hurdle will be people's cynicism about Governments enacting and enforcing these measures. (Maybe a carrot/stick approach?). But unless Governments take on this role, the natural ecosystems on earth will almost totally cease to exist. And humans' plight won't be much better. Those people who don't cherish the gift that is the natural world around us should move to the moon. Nothing to destroy there. Have at. Meanwhile, leave the earth to its natural processes, and allow those who respect earth's natural processes to enjoy them. |
