Ron Paul wins CHQ Presidential Straw Poll

Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, won the CHQ Presidential Straw Poll Monday, according to a ConservativeHQ.com blog post. Conservative HQ calculates and announces the results of its weekly straw poll every Monday. Last week, Mr. Paul handily defeated his fellow GOP candidates with 50 percent of the votes.

After Mr. Paul, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) pulled in the next highest vote total with 25 percent of the votes. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich garnered 11 percent of the votes and the rest of the GOP candidates, including former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, earned 5 percent of the votes or less.

According to the CHQ Presidential Straw Poll results, Mr. Paul gained 4 percentage points from the previous week. Ms. Bachmann lost 4 percentage and Mr. Gingrich dropped 2 percentage points. Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman were the only other two candidates to see a slight increase in support from the previous week. Mr. Huntsman and Mr. Perry gained 1 percentage point each.

The week prior to Monday, December 5th was Mr. Paul’s best week in the CHQ Presidential Straw Poll. Mr. Paul garnered 64 percent of the votes at that time. According to ConservativeHQ.com, Mr. Paul has won first place in the CHQ Presidential Straw Poll for 10 straight weeks. In addition, 1 out of every 2 participants in the latest straw poll voted for Mr. Paul.
