Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I got a special wilderness permit to go into an area in the mountains in CA where they hadn't allowed foot traffic in, in twenty years. There were no trails. It was myself and two other Marines and we did it in exchange for seeing if there was a rare kind of trout in the streams up there. I guess the forest service didn't have anyone who wanted to do it. I'm not sure I was set up with this by a friend. Anyway we hiked for two days with no trails using just a map and compass and on the second day we walked around this huge cliff to find a full on cabin with a lawn and solar power and washer and dryer the whole nine yards all built into the rock face of the cliff. You couldn't see it from above so it had gone unoticed for years. We talked to the guy that lived there and he said we were the first people he had seen hike in, in 14 years. He was a retired helicopter pilot and he had flown all the equipment in by helo. He was squatting on federal land and knew it but didn't seem worried. He said he hikes out every two weeks for supplies by a different route then we came in and he showed it to us. We used that route to get back as he had a trail beaten down so the walking was easier. All in all it was pretty cool. The trout the forest service was looking for were in the creeks so it is still closed to foot travel and we never told the forest service about the old helicopter pilot so I would bet he is still out there.

I saw a dude taking a shit in the woods. The interesting part was the length of the turd. It ran from his ass to the ground as one long shit rope.

We where camping in the middle of nowhere, no roads, very few tracks.
Sitting around the campfire when one of the girls said " There is someone up in that tree"
I was like, sure, here we go with the scary stories.
I looked to where she was pointing, and sure enough, just visable in the glow of the fire was a leg danggling from a brach!
I called out "hey!"...whoever it was jumped down and ran off into the darkness...weird.

Hiking west texas, middle of winter , had been off the map for 3 days, was walking through the woods not on a trail at all, the time was about 4 in the morning, i dont use a light when i walk at night i just use the moonlight or my eyes adjust enough so its easy, anyhow i ducked under a tree branch while walking then as i stood upright there was a man with no shirt on right in front of me which blew my mind, it was about 20 that night he had no shirt and only shorts i pulled my knife out and ask him if he was ok, but i never stopped walking he didnt answer and i kept moving through the woods i looked back after about a minute and he was totally gone.

very wierd encounter.

Walking through a forest in the Northwest and it was raining and I seen two kids dressed all in white sitting next to a pond.. they both looked very sad. The reason it is important noting that is was raining was because they did not appear to be wet... to make it stranger my dog didn't seem to notice them. They both gave me a long cold stare... I looked forward then back and walked about 10 feet then looked back and no one was there.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
About a mile in I found a circle of fresh cornmeal on the ground. It was about 8' in diameter and had symbols inside that I did not understand.

1/2 mile further, stepping out of a thicket, I came face to face with a very hairy tattooed man that was shirtless. At his feet where two army duffle bags, both stuffed full, one had a machete attached to it.

Of course you know what I was thinking, however, after talking to him for about an hour, I believed his story. He was a Viet Nam war vet that could not take living in the city and now lived somewhere up in the hills. He would not tell me where, however, told me to go to a certain spot, give a yell and he would come out and visit. He admitted to making the cornmeal circles. Something about making a spiritual connection with the Elk??

Once a month he made the hike out to the road to meet a family member that would re-supply him. He was hiking back in from one such meeting, (hence full duffle bags). We became comfortable with each other, probably because of our common Viet Nam war service connection. I asked his permission to hike further into his cannon. He agreed, since he was heading that way I offered to carry one of his duffle bags. When he let me pick up the bag with the machete, I knew all was well.

I made several hikes into this canyon and found places where he would leave clothing. Even ran into a family member on the road one day leaving him supplies, however, I never did see him again.

I found the same thing when I was about 16. It was an old sack with what must had been over a 100 smut magazines in it. there was also a bag with unopened bear bottles in it.

I suspect now that there are demons who this to lead people away from God and get them trapped into a life of pornography. I mean, think about it, who carries porn and bear into the woods and just leaves it there knowing that kids could find it? If someone is an addict and they repent and want to get rid of their sinful stash, wouldn't they make sure that it was burned or at least put out with the garbage... not taken into the woods for others to find.

Went camping when I was young..we pitched our tent and settled in.. I went to take a leak and noticed a florescent green tree stump! It was rotten and damp, and we broke off chunks and put them all over to light our area and so we could find things in the dark! True story... History of fluorescence

Luminous materials were known in the times of the Greeks and Romans. Aristotle mentions the sea, meat and some fungi (rotting wood). Then in the 17th century phosphorescent substances were discovered “the marvellous light-absorbing and light-emitting luminous minerals”. Casciorolo (1602-4) working in Bologna, discovered that barium sulphide when put between red-hot coals became luminous. The Alchymyst by Joseph Wright.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I make a living walking in the woods. Have done it from Tennessee east, going North to Maine. Then west to Northern Ontario east to Nova Scotia.

Where do you want me to start?

I have done this for over 20 years and never have carried a gun. I do carry bear mace and bear bangers. I have encountered every form of 'normal' wildlife that you can imagine.

From -30 to 100 degrees I have been in all weather conditions. From swamps to bogs to mountain tops, I have seen it all.

I have never seen Big Foot, chupacabras, werewolves, UFOs, nor aliens. I have never been attacked by anything except bugs and yellow jackets. I have come face to face with bears, moose, coyotes, timber rattlers, copperheads. 3 times I have used bear bangers to chase away moose who were curious. I have never used the bear mace.

I love being in remote locations. The more remote the better. I feel more safe there then I do walking down the street.

BTW You said that you used a map and compass. While I carry each, I rarely use them. 100% GPS for me. I use Garmin because it is the best and saves me a ton of time.

So if you want to know anything ask me a question.

I live near a military base and as kids we'd go onto the reservation and go fishing, or just explore. In the woods just before the border of the reservation we found a stack of M-16s. There was probably a dozen of them leaned against one another. We didn't see any soldiers, but we figured that they were nearby and ran off.

A small pot farm, bathtubs , Toilets, couches that looked like people died on them, lots of OLD abandoned boats, TONS of animal bones, a screaming flaming/skull that appeared in midair & something that looked like it was out of Predator, a large BigFoot type "figure" that "blended" with the trees as it ran through the woods.
The latter two I tend to dismiss as childhood "hallucinations" but my brother was with me and we swore we saw the same thing, we both were scared to death and ran screaming and crying out of there.
We saw it near a rather large boat that was supposedly used for transporting people from Cuba to Florida and legend had it that many died during the trip.
