Well.. My wife has a severe medical issue that causes her to get dizzy & pass out & need food imidiately. Somtimes, we have been grocrey shopping & she would have to snack on food from store to prevent this from happinging while we shop. just glad we didnt forget to put wrapper on register with rest of grocries.

I've eaten food in the store before, I just remember to pay for it. Usually it's a donut, I just show the empty bag to the cashier and said that there 'was' a donut in the bag.

Hasn't everybody accidently walked out of a store with something. I've had to go back in a few times to pay for things that were on the bottom of my cart. Once I took a postcard and walked outside and mailed it. Then I walked back in sheepishly and paid for it.

Regardless of the intention, their child should not have spent a day in state custody from this. The most that they will face is a fine and being outlawed from the store.

She was NOT arrested for EATING a sandwich, she was arrested for SHOPLIFTING *2* sandwiches.

It wasn't just her. it was hubby,too! To me it smells and I don't know about you,but nah, i would've just made them pay for the sandwiches right there in the store! Forget taking the kid away. Embarrassment works better than any punishment known to mankind.

I've got to agree with you there - they ate them on purpose so they wouldn't have to pay. I have seen people dishing up salad in the grocery store and eating it and then leaving. I mentioned it once to a worker and she just smiled and said she knows, but turns a blind eye because they must be hungry. I've also seen people snacking on grapes. So, why is it OK to eat a chicken sandwich or salad, but if you grabbed a bag of chips and walked out you would be in big trouble?

A little off subject, but close enough. A girlfriend was in a grocery store (SD) to pick up one or two items. After picking up a bottle of one item, her husband called asdking her to pick up some more items. She was headed to the carts just beyond the registers, and was getting ready to pull a cart when one of the big wigs at the store called her out for shoplifting!

Apparently there was a recent turnover of management and several upper management were in the store at the time. The manger that knew her from years of shopping there had been let go.

After several weeks of waiting for the court date, and about losing it, she finally went to see an attorney. This woman made a call to the DA, and had the charges dropped immediately! This is something I have done several times, gone back for a cart after deciding I needed a few more items.

Oh! She wasn't charged anything by this attorney!

Meantime, Banksters on Wall St. steal Billions and aren't charged with anything.
It's time we got our priorities straight in this country. And why the hell does a sandwich cost $5?

It does seem a little fishy, but I've done it. I've eaten and/or drank things in stores and always paid for them. But I have also walked out without paying for things and returned and paid. Whatever the reason, I don't think that it was handled very well.

I see this more and more People eating food from the deli and throwing the wrappers on the floor. Stealing is stealing even if You only call it snacking. If You need to steal food You may want to rethink having another Child

I've prepaid for gas and ran over a few cents and ran in and paid. They always laughed at me cuz it was by my house and they all knew me. They don't even set the pumps when you prepay.

Even if she intentionally shoplifted two sandwiches, should the state have taken her child away for almost an entire day????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Taking their kid away is a bit extreme. They should have tried to call family members to take the kids. Maybe they even did, the article doesn't say.

But really, she just "forgot" to pay for the 2 sandwiches she ate while she was in the store? People don't typically *eat* their food before paying for it at the store. Pregnant women shouldn't get exceptions with regard to theft, or other crime. And I'm pregnant myself, so I say this without bias!!
