I'll agree that there are many, particularly among the younger protesters, who are there simply because they want to participate in something 'anti-establishment' and 'subversive', without really understanding the root causes of many of the supposed injustices against which they are protesting.

I think it is disingenious, however, to attribute the initiation and groundswell of this highly-visible public anger to any specific political group. If you watch footage from these protests, there are many different agendas and political affiliations being represented.

That's part of their problem. There is no coherence in their message or the direction of their protest.

It's a free-for-all. But it shows that many, many people are pissed off, and they are not divided on any specific political issues, especially the '99% - 1%' issue, which has been very visible - around the globe.

For that reason, I don't buy into the view that this originated from any particular faction other than a group who feel disenfranchised by the political status quo throughout Western economies.

Now, however, every faction under the sun is trying to hi-jack/adopt this outburst of individual frustration that has grown to group outrage, for their own purposes.

I.e; enter George Soros, stage right ...

Here is a better idea:

Shrink the government to 10% of what it is today so the baby suckers can fail without a sugar daddy there to prop them up, or a big stick to go beat up on some other country to expand their market or financial influences through theft.

Yep most people here think if you want Medicare even for just children that means your a communist. The problem is that they've been sold on the lie that if you work hard and take care of your own business you too can have the American dream. This reality may have been true 40-50 years ago but these ideals are long gone and have only been exploited to turn us against each other. Middle America vs. Inner city America. Left vs. Right... on and on... meanwhile Haliburton, Fannie Mae and JP Morgan( and many more) are stealing the whole store out the back door.
These guys do need to be regulated. But the problem is the gov. Is owned by them. So to a degree the fears on this site are warranted. More government means more of the same problems. What needs to happen is the right needs to protest gov. And the left needs to fight the banks. And both need to realize who they're REAL enemy is and start working together. IMO .

This^ is an over simplification of a far more complicated situation that will only get worse if not addressed.
