After that, probably your only hope of seeing it is with an Earth telescope. It will be in both Stereo A&B's HI2 FOV, but, it is too dim to be seen on either. |

Probably the major reason it is so dim, is that it lost most of it's water content. See [link to spaceobs.org] Elenin hasn't been in the Stereo B HI1 FOV since Sept 4th. What was seen recently on Stereo B HI1 was 45p/Honda. Elenin was barely visible on Stereo A HI1 until Sept 22nd, it has been MIA since. This is what it looked like on Stereo A HI1; |

ELENIN on Stereo A HI1 for 20110917 looks the same as Comet Honda on Stereo B HI1 for date 20110925. [link to secchi.nrl.navy.mil] Don't you find it odd that ELENIN has been MIA recently? Why can't SOHO see it? |

Why can't SOHO see it? If you've had experience searching for objects on Soho C3, you would know that anything dimmer than around the low magnitude 10s is not visible. However, Stereo HI1 is capable of around 13. The last best guess on Elenin was around 10 to 11. My guess would be closer to 11. This explains why the Stereo HI1 could see Elenin but Soho can't. Not odd at all, in fact, when I first found Elenin on Stereo A, I remarked that it didn't look favorable for seeing it on Soho. Around the 6:25 mark, "...not looking too good...maybe you'll be able to see something..." Then again at 12:30, "...maybe we'll get a good picture of it, and maybe we won't..." It looked awful dim to me... |

What about ELENIN and Honda looking very similar on Stereo A&B HI1 from the SECCHI site, ELENIN on Stereo A HI1 - 20110917 and Honda on Stereo B HI1 - 20110925? They look identical to me. |

I guess Terral03 "figured out" that he was tracking the wrong object. There is a dumbass hiding on your keyboard. They are between "Y" and "I" |

(OP) User ID: 1537588 United States 09/29/2011 02:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Is it at all possible that ELENIN did not reach the FOV of SOHO? Just asking for clarity. Quoting: Bent Oh, and thanks for all the vids, they are clear and concise. Elenin was right where it should have been on Stereo A HI1 right up to the day before it was due on Soho C3. I'm pretty sure it made C3 as scheduled. Soho sucks. I hate trying to find anything on it. There are so many one frame wonders it makes it very difficult to find something dim. Think of the advances made on digital cameras since 1995. Think about what we could be seeing, it would be better than SDO. |

Terral03 now thinks that he was tracking the wrong thing and apparently CW Leonis is actually the object that we should all be getting all doomy over. But obviously CW Leonis is NOT what we think it is. lol There is a dumbass hiding on your keyboard. They are between "Y" and "I" |

I hope Terral has a good survival plan for when the people that suffered from his 'plans' come to pay their respects. I would buy tickets... |
