It was someone you know, or at the very least someone who was in your house at some point..

A very high probability this poster was right.....I know it was what happened to me....turned out to be a neighbor who I thought was a friend.....He's in prison now and hopefully stretching a bit...At least I got to rough him up first...before Bubba did in his own way...

We have to take the stance of taking care of ourselves and not relying on anyone, like the police, to protect us...

harden the exterior security of your home. As you see, an alarm only protects your property, after ten minutes. It helps you not one whit had you been home.

Kick proof door strikes, security doors, window guards, laminated glass, auto dog barking alarms...

Thieves know it takes ten minutes for the police to come, on a slow night...they could have someone call 911 and someone pull a fire alarm and have officers tied up longer if they were really smart....

But if you were home and they had you or a loved one at knife or gunpoint, and told you to tell the alarm company or police it was a false alarm, you might do it.

They took guns, jewelry boxes with jewelry I have had for years and years, our laptop computers ( I am using my work computer right now) ---they broke the back door and we have an alarm system; they were able to take a lot in 10 minutes as that is how long the police took to get here.

Heartsick, violated and very sad...

hate to hear that.. weird.. someone bashed in the back window of our old suv sitting right in the drive way sat.night..
no other reason than just to do it..didn't even bother calling the police. whats the point? going to get a lot worse thefts, random acts of vandalism..

Yes, indeed.

I figured out who was behind my burglary years later. My husband figured it out right off (we did not know each other when it happened, but started dating about a year later), but it took me awhile to put all the pieces together before I believed him. I used to be a very trusting person.

Very sorry to here this Angel...you are truly one of the nicest people who post on this site.

It saddens me that you and your family where violated like this. Hopefully they will catch the thieves and your property will be returned soon.

Thats why no one, I MEAN NO ONE, comes into our house unless they are friends or family that we have known for years, and have their shit together. Even then, with family and friends I NEVER show them where our valuables are stored!!!

Oh, and next time install tracking software on your machines, and allow a GUEST logon, that way you catch them and chances are they will not wipe the HD.

Re: Someone broke into our house this afternoon
Happened to me years ago. I actually walked into the house carrying my sleeping baby--felt air blowing in my face and saw a broken window. I turned around and went out. Evidently, when whoever it was heard my car in the driveway, they went out the back. Because a lot of stuff that was unplugged and "ready to go" was still there.

Police never found who it was. The only thing we were sure was missing was an electric typewriter (told you it was years ago!).

It took me a long time to get over that. I carried a pistol in my purse for a long time. The worst thing was thinking of what might have happened if they hadn't run when they heard my car.

How horrifying! I remember getting robbed many years ago. Among other things, they took my jewelry box that had all sorts of personal momentos, including some jewelry my dad gave my mom while he was in the service.

The feeling of violation is the worst...

It is hard to understand when bad things happen to good people.too_sad

Hang in there darling; “things” no matter how special are still just “things”

If you have people to love, you are indeed rich.red_heart

Re: Someone broke into our house this afternoon
You could always offer a "bounty" for information leading to the arrest of the person - post signs in the neighborhood. OR... you could do it the sly way, and put an ad or FLYERS in your neighborhood, seeking the very items you lost, but without a bunch of detail, ie, looking for a used laptop, you pay top dollar... etc. Then have the person send you a pick of what they want to sell you and turn away the people that send pics of stuff that does not look like yours...
