Re: Keychain Bug Out Essentials! Get 'em now, before you need them!
I just heard about a baby that died in a car fire, because nobody could get the safety straps off her car seat, and not one person had a pocket knife!

That got me thinking about what everyone should ALWAYS have with them...preferably on their keychains.

First: A small pocket knife that connects to your keychain. Don't watch someone burn because you don't have a knife! Comes in handy for lots of things... A small multi-function Swiss Army knife or just a simple single blade...you decide.

Second: A high quality whistle, like the Storm safety whistle. If you are lost in the woods, or buried under a collapsed building, or wanting to attract attention, call your kids back to the camp, or whatever, this whistle will be your friend! Yelling takes too much energy and your voice will give out quickly. This whistle takes very little energy and may save your life. It's tiny, and fits on your keychain.

Third: A small, high quality LED flashlight, like the Photon II. Super bright, long lasting and will amaze you at it's brightness. Find your key holes at night, read your maps, find your lost contacts or whatever. This light is also tiny, and hooks to your keychain.

All these items can be found on Amazon or somewhere similar.

For less than $25, you can be MUCH more prepared for emergencies and disasters and simple, daily chores.

Hope that helps....

cheers

IF in a city if one has to go in and out of larger buildings or ANY government buildings the "knife in the pocket" or briefcase/lunchbox doesn't work anymore since KNIVES ARE NOW BANNED in most of those buildings ... and as you go through the metal detector they WILL confiscate and then dispose of any knife you might have.

I used to always carry a small pocket knife ... but anymore carrying one is just a PITA because of all the new security ... so I don't (do still have one in the glovebox of the vehicle though).

Yes, that's right. I DID say in my first sentence "I heard". I guess I don't understand your point...

Have a great day and, get yourself prepared! A knife, a flashlight, a whistle, a firestarter...all can fit on your keychain. Then start stocking food, ammo, solar charger, batteries, water, water filters, etc etc.!!

It's a MAD MAD MAD world when you don't have the simple freedom to carry a tiny little pocketknife!

A pencil or a pen could be used as a deadly weapon...BAN them!!

After doing some research, here is the keychain flashlight I ordered from Amazon:

[link to www.amazon.com]

Here is the Storm Safety whistle that fits on a keychain and could really help people find you, or scare away a bear or???

[link to www.amazon.com]

Here is a pocket knife that is recommended for first responders...it has a built in car window breaker can cut a seatbelt off in a jiffy. Might not fit on a keychain, but hey!

[link to www.amazon.com]

And, finally, here is a nice pocket sized fire starter:

Whoops, one more. Here is a cool looking multi-tool that has all the above tools built in, except the window breaker:

It is incomprehensible to me that any man does not carry at least a small pocket knife whenever they are wearing pants. I feel naked without one.

I carried a pocket knife in my pocket from age 10 to 30 or so...then I stopped...just didn't like the weight and bulk in my pocket. But, now I carry a small knife on my keychain and I hardly notice it's there. Good enough to cut a seat belt or rope or whatever. Better to have one and not need one, than to need one and not have one...

I always keep a utility pocket knife combination in the car in case I need to cut myself out of the seatbelt in a car accident. You should have it positioned within easy reach and in such matter that it will not fly away from you in an accident. Dying in a burning car is a very unpleasant way to go, do try to avoid it if you can.

Hmmm, a keychain radiation monitor! I'm not sure I want to know....what would you be able to do if radiation was raining down on your world? Unless you owned a deep cave, stocked with many years of food and water...

Thanks for the ideas!

Yes, burning would be the worst way to go...especially if you are thinking "why didn't I listen to that friendly fish dude on GlP and get a knife for my keychain????"

the line that powers the fan is blown. it's up in the ceiling, which has no access except going into the single piece of ceiling panel.

so, we are going to reroute to the working part of the electrical panel. we'll just have to run the wire across the ceiling and down the wall. it'll work. we're going to do it tomorrow. my dad is tired from all trouble shooting.

me too. i think i'm going to take a nap. my head hurts now.gaah
