Cute cat and kitten stories...
I really love cats and kittens but my S/O is allergic to them so I can´t have one. I really miss them. I used to have several cats.

Let´s share cute cat or kitten stories. I´ll start:

I once had about 8 cats that always want table scraps after dinner. Once, I made a big pot of fresh broccoli because it was going to spoil. There was a lot left over, so I put the pot down for the cats assuming they would ignore it and I´d just throw it all away.

They all walked by and turned their noses up at it, except one. The last one stopped and tried a piece. Then another, and another. He liked it and kept eating.

All the other cats who had previously walked by now saw this one cat eating the broccoli and came back to check it out again. One by one, they all started eating the broccoli they had previously scoffed at.

All it took was for ONE to like it and the others all thought they were missing out on something.

I thought it was funny as hell.

I had a cat that taught me a good lesson, once.
I inherited a cat from a roomate and I was trying to get acquainted; lying on the floor, face to face, making stupid noises, when it hissed and scratched my nose, making me bleed profusely. I got extremely mad and chased it around the house until I caught myself...Boy, was I angry! It´s just a cat being a cat! I didn´t know I could get that way; always seeing myself as a "nice guy" and never angry! I learned a lot about myself that day...from my cat.

I, too am a cat lover. Have had, literally, 100´s over the years. And have a lot of funny stories to tell.

This one answers the question, "Do cats have a sense of humor?"

I had this little long-haired female kitty named Brownie I was standing in the window of my little country grocery store, and I saw her sitting on a fence post. She was looking down into the weeds at something very intently, and I just assumed it was a field mouse. As I watched her, she began to crouch down ready to spring onto something - then she did. As she jumped down, I saw another cat spring straight up into the air about 5 feet, as tho he had rockets attached to his feet. Brownie came out of the weeds, looked at the cat (as if to say -I scared you ´good´) and walked back to the store with a most satisfied and amused look on her face. I swear she was smiling. And so was I.

Re: Cute cat and kitten stories...
Okay, you asked for it!

I got LOADS of cat stories. I will start with the current one.

Me and my son (17) have been "babysitting" my first "grandchild"... my fifteen year old daughter´s 7 month old cat. My daughter is away for a springbreak tour ( we live on the other side of the world, you know? <grin>) and since she lives with her father and stepmom ( who lives a street block away from the best girl´s school in Johannesburg, where we managed to get her in, because of her dad living there!) and stepmom hates cats, it is best for the kitty´s healt ( read life!) that he is not left alone with stepmom.

Jazz ( the cat ) is a joy. He is used to travelling here on weekends, so is quite car trained (sit on my shoulder while I am driving.. or in the back, staring down the driver behind me) and quite used to moving between homes.

He is a cockroach hunter extra-ordinaire. Will sit for two hours, deadstill, in the kitchen, watching that one roach that is sneaking from behind the stove, till it is totally exposed, then pounce! ( who needs chemicals?)

At night, he will sneak in between my bed and the wall, when I don´t notice. Just as I settle down, face to the wall, half asleep. he will POP up, and say "MAU!", and dissapear again. So you wake up, and think "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" maybe a dream... and settle down.. he will give you about five minutes.. then comes the second hit.. POP up, whack your nose with his paw, and disappear. Now you awake, and watching.. then the whiskers appear, then the nose, then the green eyes laughing at you... And then he bounces over you, making a point to land hard in the middle of your tummy, and run off. Ten minutes later, he will sneak under the blanket, to come tell you he loves you, and all you can do is laugh, and curl up with him.

In the mornings, when you grumpily stomp off to the bathroom, he will trip you up just in front of the toilet. And while you are cursing him, he will rub against your legs, looking up at you.. . oO(But I LOVE you! I just helped you to wake up, see!)0o.

Tonite I was lying on the sofa, watching TV, and he came and lay down on top of my chest, tucking his nose under my chin, and became an hourlong fur chest warmer, limp and lifeless, and purring. How can you NOT love him?

One question for you folks. I have had many cats in my life, mostly sidewalk specials, and one pedigreed Burmese ( still hurts to talk about him, I miss him a lot!) for 12 years. This kitty tonite, while lying on me, kept "jerking", even while he was sleeping. Like someone having fever shakes? My son also noticed it. Anyone with cats noticed that before? I never had that before.

My wife is a vet nurse always carrying cats around , ours to the vet, some lonely cat to live with us for a while occasionally. One night she came back with a stray black & white kitten who was supposed to be put down that day but they couldn´t do it as they were running late. It was in a cage , not well and covered in diarrhoia. She put him next to the bed and in the morning I woke up and saw this chap looking at me through the bars. He has long wispy ears. She knew that would happen. Eery (10 now) is my best friend, a little black and white who screams at me to pick him up when I get home.

What great and heart warming stories.

9875: That had me rofl. It never ceases to amaze me how high a startled cat can jump. And then, of course, they´re twice the size when they land. All claws and teeth.

MoonShadow Za: Was it jerking or shivering? If it was jerking, I think I would atribute it to dreaming. But of you´re worried, maybe you should get him/her checked out.

John Souttar: Brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for sharing that with us.

Please ignore the "haters" that don´t like my username. They are just trying to cause trouble.

I once had a real idiot dog that, if she got off where she was tied, would kill squirrels and chipmunks in the revine behind where I lived at the time. She got free one afternoon and was running around the ravine while a friend and I tried to catch her.

While trying to get the dog back, we stumbled across a ferral cat´s den that had 4 newborn kittens. I was afraid the dog would kill them if she found them so I brought them in the house. To make a long story short, I nursed these guys with eye-droppers until they were old enough to eat on theor own. They grew up to be 4 of the best and tamest cats I ever had.

It seems they all thought I was their mother and they always treayed me that way. One of them, the one who was sickest as a baby and therefore got the most of my attention, would never leave my side. I´m over 6´ tall and he could jump from the floor to my shoulder and land there usinf no claws. He would then drape himself around my neck like a scarf and stay there as long as I would let him.

Re: Cute cat and kitten stories...
Moonshadow--my cat used to do that when I used to feed her tuna--I figured it may have been from mercury poisoning, since one of the symptoms of that is having your legs jerk around during sleep. Tuna is close to the top of the food chain so it can carry a lot of mercury. I took her off of fish and the jerking stopped sometime later (a few weeks). (She is lying on the floor right here and just meowed several times as if to say, "Are you talking about me behind my back?")

Anyway, just thought I would mention it, since you asked for input.

Re: Cute cat and kitten stories...
here are my funny cat stories.

one time i had made corn on the cob, and left the pan on the stove to cool, went for a nap. i was awoken by a "thud" sound, and went to the kitchen to find the cat having retrieved and drug a whole corn cob down to the floor, and found him mouth to cob, chewing down on the corn. lol!

one of my cats had learned how to leap up, and flip the light switch on or off to suit himself. the lights would go on and off all day long. lol!

we used to have a kitten that we discovered on haloween night, had stuck her head into a mason jar full of roasted pumpkin seeds, and got stuck. by the time we found her, the jar was full of steam and she wasn´t moving. we didn´t have time to call the fire department, so we wrapped a towel around her head, grabbed a hammer, and cracked the jar. she resumed breathing immediately.

Re: Cute cat and kitten stories...
I´m a huge cat lover ... can you tell by my avatar?

I have lots of stories, but one relatively recent one is, I found a tiny, tiny little kitten on the highway in the median area late one night, and after a bit of trial and error searching around in the grass, I was able to pick him up.

He was scared at first, but when I put him to my chest and held him, he calmed down right away and seemed to trust that I wouldn’t hurt him. I didn’t see any other kittens around, and there was a good amount of traffic whizzing by on the highway, and it was so dark, so I got back in the car and pulled through the median to drive to the electric company right across the median to pay my bill, which was why I was there in the first place. If it wasn’t bill paying time, I wouldn’t have seen the kitten, and God knows what would have happened to him. I kept telling him, “It’s okay. Momma’s gonna take care of you.” He seemed to know that.

It was hard to estimate his age, but he seemed too tiny to be weaned, or just barely weaned, so I guesstimated him to be about 4 weeks. This was on June 15th, that I found him, of this year, so if he was four weeks, he’s just a little over 4 months old now. I took him home, driving with one hand and holding him with the other. He was real quiet and didn’t meow or act scared. He was such a trooper. It was about 15 minutes to home. I didn’t have any milk, but fed him some Fancy Feast adult cat food, since I have two adult cats. He loved it. I got him some of that kitten formula from PetSmart and tried to feed him with the little bottle, but he just wouldn’t drink out of it, so I poured it on top of his food, and then fed him some condensed milk, too, mixed with some water for a while, and that seemed to do the trick.

He follows me around a lot, like he thinks I’m his momma (which I am) and used to do so a lot more when he was littler, but hangs with the big cats more now, and he loves to curl up at my feet when I am on the computer or reading and watching t.v. He needs his snuggle time every day and loves to crawl up on my chest and put his little head under my chin and nuzzle my neck, and my, does that little guy purr! He loves to purr, and he is such a sweetie.

My other two cats have gotten used to him, and the big white kitty I have recently adopted that was abandoned by someone down the road, plays with little Punkin’ (the kitten), and they have a great time. I can’t understand why someone would dump such a little darlin’ out in the middle of nowhere (there were no homes around or anything like that). When I interact with him and see how loving and affectionate he is, and how funny and cute and smart, it just boggles my mind the personality he has, and that someone just dumped such a little treasure like that. I’m just glad he’s my kitty. He stole my heart right away.

Most of my kitties have been ´throw-aways´ also. And I always wondered why anyone would abandon something so sweet and helpless as a baby kitty. (or puppy) Makes me burn with anger when I think about.
I am getting close to 60 years old now, and I could not count how many kittens I have found and taken in, like that, over the years.

Yes, I can´t understand how someone can abandon a pet, especially a tiny kitten or puppy. Once you reach a certain level of compassion, there are just some things you cannot do.

Most of my pets have been strays, and I have had a couple of previously feral cats as pets too. One was a magnificent, beautiful long-haired orange and white tabby I named Samson, and he introduced me to another feral cat about a year after he came into my life, who was mostly black with white paws and chest, and has this chocolate undercoat that you see in the sunlight. They were both such a beautiful couple. I knew she was feral, because I knew her history from the guy that managed the apartments where I lived.

To give them love and care and see them blossom ... there really isn´t anything to compare to the feeling of that.

You sound like a very sweet lady, egranny. You must have given lots of pets the love they so desperately needed. hf

Isn´t it amazing how ignorant people will just stick their noses where they are so obviously not wanted?

I apologize for that intrusion. Just ignore the idiot.

When I lived in a fairly rural area some years ago, I had many cats. Some would breed, so I always had a fresh supply of kittens as well. It was like a warm, furry, purring slice of heaven.

I had a "cat-door" so they could come and go as they pleased. This made potty time much more bearable to say the least. But being rural, there were occasionally feral cats (see my kitten story above) that would just show up. They´d hang with my cats and learn about the cat door and food bowl and the next thing you´d know is we´d have friends for dinner.

That was neat, until one night the stray cat turned out to be a raccoon. A big one. Right in the middle of the kitchen. At midnight.

Yeah, that was a fun night.

No kitties were harmed during the making of this anecdote.

Re: Cute cat and kitten stories...
Late this spring i took my dad who is getting up there in years out to the farm to check the crops etc.

When we pulled up to the farm site which is just a bunch of grain bins i could here this faint sound of crying so looking around i spotted this little black kitten with a white stripe between its eyes sitting on the grain auger tire.

It was quite precious and looked so vulnerable. Being that far out it was obviously dropped.

I pick it up and put it in the truck and it rode with us to some other land and then to my brothers place.

It was very friendly and crawled all over the truck and my dad was quite taken in by it, so was i.

I named it white stripe and even old dad with his creeping alzheimer´s was calling the little kitten by its new given name.

I wanted to take little white stripe home for the kids but i knew the 2 jack russell terriers we have would have killed it so i gave it to my brothers little children and they gave it some milk and the kitten seemed happy.

The following monday i raced out to my brothers place to see how white stripe was doing but couldn´t see her around anywere.

Then my brother started up his truck and moved it out of the drive and pulled up to talk to me. Just as he got there i started asking him if he had seen the new kitten around when i spotted a small furry body lying at the spot my brother truck was parked.

It took everything i had inside me to keep from crying.

Re: Cute cat and kitten stories...
I got a new kitten the other day for a playfriend for my adult cat. This new kitten is just utterly fearless! Neighbor brought over his jack russel terrier and that poor dog was terrified of my little kitten. Kitty kept chasin him around the house smacking him in the butt and the dog would yelp and run away. Then she would go to high ground where the stupid dog can´t see her and pounce on him from above. I´ve never seen a tiny dog jump four feet in the air before, but let me tell you it´s hillarious. At first my adult cat wasn´t to happy about the idea of another cat hogging my attention, but now she´s realized i split my attention equilly and do a good job, plus she has something to chase around when i´m not home. Now they lick eachother, roll around and chase eachother. The older cat has been around every type of animal imaginable, from cold to warm blooded and gets a long with all of them given enough time. Kitty thinks "momma cat" is her real mom now, I caught her tryin to suck on momma cat´s nipples even tho she´s never given birth. She doesn´t mind and licks the kittens head when she tries to nurse, the other day she put the kitten in a head lock and wouldn´t let her go until she was thuroughly licked clean.

I was out of it yesterday and didn´t even get a chance to log on. Been fighting a flu that seems to hang around with sore muscles, etc.

I would love to have a cat door, but I am concerned about varying animals entering and exiting. I live near a big field in the country. Before I got my little kitten, I used to have one of the doors hanging open a little bit so my two big cats could come and go as they pleased. Then, one night, I´m sitting at my computer and hear this crunching sound, and find out a huge possum had come in and was eating the left over chicken. I couldn´t get him out, and he was like frozen with his mouth hanging open. After putting a broom near him to coax him out, and other things, I finally got the vacuum cleaner and that got him moving. He shot out the door. Later on, a baby possum was coming inside, and eating the cat food and I ended up having to coax him out the same way.

I just don´t know if they have diseases that may be transmissible to my pets. My cats just stared at the possums, but didn´t approach them.

"My cats just stared at the possums, but didn´t approach them."

The possums used to come on the porch and eat with my cats. The cats would look at them warily, but they still ate with them.
I had this beautiful long haired siamese named Sam, and she had the same coloring as a possum.
One night, I heard a noise on the porch and I looked out to see what it was. I had the door open about a foot, and all I saw was the cats eating, but one was trying to get in the house. That was certainly not unusual, so I put my foot out and kind of pushed against it - I was not really looking at it very close (my son was there, and I was half turned, talking to him) but I thought it was Sam. But it became more insistent on getting in, so I looked down and it was a big ole possum. I liked to have died. I jerked my foot away and closed the door just in time to keep him from getting in.
It would have been hard to get him out cause they just sull up and growl at you. Trying to use a broom on them is like sweeping a big rock. I have tried that before. LOL

>>This kitty tonite, while lying on me, kept "jerking", even while he was sleeping. Like someone having fever shakes? My son also noticed it. Anyone with cats noticed that before? I never had that before.

Occassional jerking while sleeping is normal, all my cats do it -jerking while awake is not.

My cat had a favorite chair she sat in. My brother came by to visit and and rudely sat in her favorite chair and put his paperback on the arm of the chair. When he went to the bathroom, my cat saw its chance and jumped up in the chair and cooly and deliberately knocked his book on the floor with her paw.

My cats have a terror of vacuum cleaners which can apparently be transferred to new cats just by watching their reaction. If I turn the vacuum cleaner off and take the plastic tube and touch them with it, their paw jerks back as if they have received an strong electric shock even though there´s no pain. The new cat saw this and when he is touched his paw recoils as well. Its as if the pipe is some power totem that is taboo to touch - I suppose because of the noise it generates when its on - cats have much more sensitive hearing than humans. Either that or they´re just playing with me.
