The Joint Resolution of Congress to admit Texas as a state was signed by President Tyler on March 1,1845. Article IV, Section 3 of the US Constitution deals with the annexation of new states; however, there is NO provision for annexing a FOREIGN NATION, which the Republic of Texas has been since 1836. The U.S. also recognized the Republic of Texas through a TREATY in 1842, to identify geographic boundaries between the two countries. THAT TREATY WAS NEVER RESCINDED OR REVOKED. Quoting: midisandy Furthermore, when the people of Jeff Davis County [Texas] sent a copy of the Treaty of Annexation to the U.S. government because they were requesting to split from Texas and become the 51st state, the reply they received from them was that -- the Treaty was not ratified by the US Senate and it has never been ratified!!! It cannot be ratified because the US Constitution has no provision for annexing a foreign nation. [link to www.texasrepublic.info] [link to www.Gas_oven.com] Good job. True, good stuff. |
