BORG from Star Trek.
What do people here on GLP think of the BORG? Intellectually, philosophically, culturally.

The BORG are a cybernetic beings linked a to Hive Mind. People in the galaxy are forcibly linked to this Hive Mind.

Tiny nanobots are released into the blood stream. This preps the victim for assimilation. Cybernetic parts are added to the victim; included is a device which links their mind to the Collective.

What do people think of this? What is your view of the BORG?

Kevin Martin was a Borg, his name was Hue.
THINK ABOUT THIS!

The universe created life to be observed, without an observer, it never existed. So it is a mathematical proof that the universe created life.

Re: BORG from Star Trek.
My personal view is they are vile. No one ought to be forced into a Collective Mind. Individuality, despite our flaws, makes us great.

People make and define communities first of all.

Communities do not make and define people.

People build them up, not the other way around.

The BORG is the worst horror possible. Imagine being conquered and assimilated to become part of a collective entity whose sole purpose is to conquer and assimiliate others and you have no ability to stop the madness or change your fate. It's like becoming a part of a force of evil destruction.

A collective hive mind would be cool if you could connect or disconnect at will. I suspect ETs have such a society.

I agree one hundred percent. That is the BORG right there.

Excellent summary.

If we don't invent and promote a positive vision of the social collective then we will be assimilated by the worst possible Borg type hierarchical collective IMO.

This is an important discussion for humanity

It would be very useful to share lessons in a Collective. Just not losing our own selves into said Collective.

Would it mean I can get 7 of 9?

But what if the Borg were going to win, don't wanna be on a team of losers. yeah playing devil's advocate, because the Borg I think are very similar to a certain group that I won't call out, who have bought into the technological and materialistic seductiveness of this life. But most assuredly, the thought of being part of a super race with one collective mind, not being alone, that's a very enticing concept, to me at least.

This concept of the Borg on Star Trek, was one of your Adversary's best played tricks, from my perspective.........he took a very wonderful concept, and turned it into a FORCED robotic zombie like state!

Was it affective?

Well it certainly scared a lot of people out there into NEVER considering that a collective consciousness might be God's way of communicating with His Creations!

The point of the exercise was to scare you all into NOT expanding your minds!!!

Did it work?

That is exactly what made them the scariest nemesis. Losing our identity to become drones of evil was a great concept.

Species 180 Ferengi

We don't know why Fer-enki are categorized so early in Borg history (as opposed to humans, Vulcans and other Alpha Quadrant species with ordinal numbers in the thousands, e.g. Species 5618 Humans).

Species 180 -- the Borg get infiltrated.

Did Star Trek ever explain the Borg origins, the backstory? Did it all start with some out-of-control A.I. computer or maybe some crazy robots/cyborgs who revolted against their creators?

Re: BORG from Star Trek.
A people can be united in a common goal while still maintaining their individuality. Say a group of people are united for a positive healthy goal. These people need not give up themselves for the group.

People can have their own beliefs and even disagree. Disagreement actually can make a group stronger. As long as the disagreeing does not rip the group apart.

This for you RUXA: Disagreement is NOT dissent as I was told by a certain CMA :P

Disagreement getting out of control is the issue and not disagreement in and of itself.
