What kind of a dumb ass are you? LOL! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1526177 That's OK, I don't proof read stuff here at all, except for basic speeling and even that's spotty. (See?) I think different approach is needed, more benevolent one. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1524619 We don't want our kids to be aggressive, would we. There are about fifty "Kind and gentle" reading approaches out there right now. How many have you heard of? How much have they effected you and your family? People that read have kids that read, but getting adults that don't read to get working on it in front of their kids is like pulling teeth. So I'm hoping that something a little harsher might snap people into noticing for once. *The program itself will likely be "kinder and gentler" but something really needs to be done and when being nice doesn't work, we need to consider the positive effects of going crazy. AFTER LOOK HOMEWARD ANGEL WAS WRITTEN,IT WAS PACKED UP INTO A LARGE WOODEN CRATE AND SHIPPED TO A NY PUBLISHER. AFTER THE FIRST 1,000 PAGES, THE EDITOR STILL HAD NOT FOUND THE PLOT. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1524619 Ok, that could eventually lead to more interest in books, because I know when I was young, books were not so popular among the kids. However, I found some of your choices presented here very interesting, but I can't say since the anonymous vote regarding the POLL. |

At my job people ask me to spell for them because they are to lazy to pick up the dictionary and look the word up. At GLP forum most people seem to come here to complain or ask everyone for an answer. Everyone needs to read more because it makes you a stronger person. Knowledge is power !! NO WONDER HE COULDN'T SLEEP. TRUE STORY,TOO. I disagree. Online publishers vary, but some of the new ones are getting just as good at editing as the best of the now dying paper industry houses. (I lament their passing, but that won't stop it, unfortunately.) I think your confusing sites like Kindle that allow a person to put a book up and places that have a selection process and edit the works. Really though, this is off topic. I'd rather have people reading the insane scribblings of Wolfe than not opening a book at all. Though good books help. You wouldn't happen to be one of those alien-human hybrids I keep hearing about here on GLP would you? Because, honestly, I never really believed in that whole alien gray-human hybrid stuff until I saw your pic. I would have a hard time sleeping in a bed with you if we were together. I would probably wake up all night long to make sure you weren't abducting me. Of course, a good practical joke would be to stand at the foot of the bed in semi-darkness just staring at me. Freaky. |

(OP) User ID: 500965 United States 08/29/2011 04:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes. I think so. It's the length of the works and the focus and neural recruitment that actually make the difference. As you read you become immersed in the flow of words, build a representative model or a structure that allows you to follow along with the text, all of which creates a much greater mental load. Paper books aren't required. You can read off of your computer screen even. It's the length that seems to be key. I can't prove any of that yet, no science is really in on it that I've found, but it's my best guess at this point. So Kindle away, or use any other means to read a book that works for you or your family. Last Edited by Alex A Madison on 08/29/2011 04:23 PM DON'T BE A DUMB-ASS, READ A BOOK!
